I have a (fairly mild) cold and my surgery is scheduled for this Friday. Mild congestion, feel it a little in my lungs too. I don't want to postpone my surgery. Anyone dealt with this?

I had a cough before my lumpectomy in 2013.

My regular doctor said it was from worry about being diagnosed with cancer and that it would pass as soon as I had surgery.

I really thought the surgeon would cancel but she didn't seem at all worried even though I was coughing a lot and completely hoarse.

The day after the lumpectomy I was still coughing. I went to an ENT and she had a look at my sinuses and prescribed antibiotics. 2 weeks later my cough was gone. And I changed my regular doctor for someone who has a bit more sense (I hope).

I remember that being sick did not help my anxiety. I worried more about the cough interfering with surgery than I did about the actual surgery.

Sending you good wishes for a speedy recovery from your cold and from surgery.

    Hugs.

I canceled my surgery the day before, I had bronchitis. I was worried about coughing on the table with all the tubes and equipment. Rescheduled for a month later, all went well

Thank you! I did sudafed and tylenol and felt a little better...hoping the feeling in my lungs doesn't develop into a cough. You are right, the suspense about the cold makes the anxiety worse. Last night didn't sleep much and tonight will be only the 2nd time in these 3 weeks I will take 1/2 Klonopin- rest is needed! Good luck to all...

I had a slight cold that started a few days before surgery. lt felt more like allergies really. By the day of surgery I had a bit of a cough from post nasal drip. Doc listened to my chest and said no problem. Everything went as planned. Best of luck for you tomorrow!

Thanks everyone. I went to my PCP to get checked out and then to preop yesterday so it's a go for tomorrow. Nuclear medicine at 9:15 and surgery at 11:30. I am doing a single even though wanted bilateral, because I am older and have some auotimmune health issues. Hoping to do the other one sometime in the next year.

    Good luck to all!
