    i can't decide what to do about bras. I wore a sports bra but it squished my nipple and now sadly my nipple has stayed that way since a month ago. Now I'm just wearing a tank top under my t-shirts. What are bras for anyway? Do you think they are necessary if you're b or c size? I have no idea what to do! Take care everyone.

    Hi oceangirl65;

    I wore a cammy after surgery, then tank with shelf then front close sports bra (a size bigger).

    I'm a D, or was. Now D on one side and B on the other. :(

    My BS said support helps reduce seromas but I got a seroma and I wore a bra.

    Personal choice I think. If you want the girls to hang free, do your thing.

    Hi everyone! It has been a challenge to find a comfortable bra. I did wear a cami and a strapless bra after LX, however I have only worn a tank w/ no support for RT. Today I bought a Bali wire free bra to see if it was comfortable when I begin to wear a bra again. I have read other posts on other discussions that wired bras were no longer comfortable after surgery. I know it is still sensitive where SND scar is. I am a 34b, so there isn't much to support. Just hoping to get back to a new normal. Tomorrow will be my 1st day back at the gym to workout, that is if I can manage workout clothes

    Is it true you shouldn't wear underwire bras anymore?

    Cmo65,

    Every PS is different. Mine said I could wear any kind of bra I want or a cami or no bra. My friend's PS was adamant that she wear a particular and expensive underwire bra. We both had reconstruction with implants. Go figure!

    Edited to add: Just realized that this thread is about post lumpectomy, not post mastectomy. Sorry about that. Every PS IS different though with post surgery recommendations.

    I was told no wires and to get a front fastening surgery bra which cost a lot and had such short straps that I couldn't get into it! Wore a light sports bra for a week or two and then went back to my old wired bras. Wear what's comfortable I say. I think it is probably more to do with your size and where the lumpectomy is situated that counts.

    I hope it felt great to be back at the gym, Annie!

    Cmo, I don't think it's so much a matter of that you shouldn't wear underwire bras anymore but that they may not be comfortable, depending on the location of your scar, etc. It's not advised to wear them during radiation, from what I've read.
