Scared

Hi, I just turned 40 in Dec and have been recently diagnosed with BC - I've had a lumpectomy and just got the results back yesterday that 6 of the 9 nodes removed had cancer. I'm so devastated and am looking for some encouraging stories so I can regain my strength. I was told this was stage I or II before surgery, tumour was about 1.5 cm, now this is stage III at the very least. Waiting for my CT appointment to confirm this hasn't spread elsewhere.

Thanks in advance myBC friends xox

I can absolutely understand your feeling of being scared . I was diagnosed with Inflammtory BC in Nov 2013, and those first few days were so frightening. You will feel stronger once you have your treatment plan in place and results from those early scans. I had 5 months of chemo, surgery and radiation. I had expected to feel like I had been hit by a train, but it was so much easier to cope with than I had feared. I had a new DCIS dx last month (feel this is unrelated as ER status had changed) and I surprised myself how calm I took this and how now I have a plan for this I feel I am In control. You will find many supportive people who have been or are going through your journey. I am hoping your CT results are good. ((Cyberhugs))

Thank you Scwilly, I appreciate your words of warrior wisdom, and I can feel a sense of control because regardless of my CT scan, I do have a plan and that is chemo. So I'm going to do my best not to stress over the scans coming up, bc the plan and my fight doesn't change from those results. I will have radiation, chemo and possibly some more surgery, but the plan of attack doesn't changed.

All the best for your upcoming surgery and treatment, sounds like you have this one xo.

Best of luck with treatment Will you be having chemo first? My advice is to try to keep abreast of side effects. (Esp constipation which seems to come with anti Nausia drugs) I found I never once got an infection except when I misguidedly had a prepared sub on the way to Mammouth Mountain and think I picked up a tad of food poisoning Btw was able to ski in between my 3rd and 4th chemos - and by no way an athlete! Lol Also when people ask if they can help - come up with things that suit you - even little things. Lifts, meals, shopping. Its hard for people to know how to help. My neighbour cooked some meals which was so lovely. Bw Sarah

I don't know when you are starting chemo but there is a chemo support thread for March over in the chemo section. Come and join us.

Thanks Scwilly and Trvler I'm not sure if radiation or chemo will come first, but will join the chemo support board when I do know. Best the luck to you both. Great advice re: being up to date on the side effects and when people ask how they help.
