My 16 year old daughter
hello ladies, I need your help! My active daughter has been complaining of pain to touch on the left side of her breast. She feels a pulling on the side under her arm but next to breast. Hurts/tender to touch softly and feels the pulling when raises her arm.
She plays sports but always has and never had any issues before? Went to her Peds and she said she was symmetrical and no lumps but is having an ultrasound done to check for a cyst? She has dense breasts size C/D.
Should I be panicking???Cuz I really am!!

B123, Nope, no reason to panic. I am sorry she is experiencing problems, and of course we worry so much more when it is our kids. You are right to seek medical expertise. We are always eager to share any knowledge we can and offer encouragement, but we are not able to tell you exactly what is going on, only a doctor examining her can do that but yes, you know that.
There are so many changes and issues that come up in our breast that are benign, and I certainly pray that is the case for her. My first thoughts are that it is related to her sports and activity, plus bust size and age. My little cousin is her age, big busted, active, and she has a hardtime managing her chest in sports. Something guys do not have to deal with!
Dense breast tissue requires more monitoring as issues can be hidden in there and not so easy to feel/see. Her age makes hormonal changes more likely the cause and not cancer, so just relax for her and yourself until you have more info. And even then if you did get bad news, panicing will not help anyone. Please keep us posted and of course wishing you the best news after tests.

Meadow, thank you for that, I need it.. I am a nervous wreck! Her Peds said that the worst it can be is a cyst and not to worry. BC is usually not painful nor tender to a tiny touch but still am worried of what's going on?? Can a cyst hurt?

Breast density is commonly associated with age, so most young women have dense breasts. Cysts can certainly be uncomfortable because they are displacing normal breast tissue. If she is wearing an underwire bra that can cause some discomfort if it is pushing the cyst with the wire. Cysts can come and go, often with menstrual cycles. If she has too much discomfort with it she can have an ultrasound guided aspiration done to drain the cyst of fluid. I had this done a number of times - it is important to have it done with simultaneous imaging so they are sure the cyst is emptied and the walls collapsed, it is less likely to refill.

Yes anything can hurt. Anything is possible as we are all so different and unique. What might not feel painful to one may to another, but there are usual standards

specialK, Yes she does wear an underwire bra, she is very athletic and wears a sports bra but maybe it's not enough? Or the underwire may be causing the pain to happen? You also had this many times? Did you have pain/tenderness to touch when you did? She is fine unless it's touched in the one area. It's a little swollen. Her Peds said that I should not worry and that the worst it can be is a cyst. She had a bad cold a month ago, just got treated antibiotics for a swollen lymph node that was infected near groin area and now this!?
Thanks for your help!

B123 - I have had a zillion cysts, and had multiple in both breasts at the time of bi-lat mastectomy. They could be painful to the touch depending on where they were, particularly in relation to the underwire in my bra and timing of my cycle. Some cysts didn't bother me, or were deep enough that I didn't feel them, others were painful and my breast surgeon aspirated the fluid inside to relieve the pressure on the adjacent tissue.
