I went to NOLA just before Christmas. I didn't bring him a present, but I shared an article about him from my local newspaper and had my photo taken w/ him. I liked all of my doctors, but this was the only step I didn't worry about at all. Made a big difference in how I feel

I brought him a present when I saw him in early January....

it wasn't much, but it made him smile. (It really is astounding how much of a difference those two little tattoos can make...)

I wanted to post this here since I am absolutely getting Vinnie's 3d nipple tattoos at the end of all of these shenanigans! I just had a stage1 Sgap flap reconstruction and getting ready to set up stage 2, which includes removing most of the skin paddle leaving a circle for the "aureola" and adding a nipple if I want it.

I don't think I want a nipple based on the fact that it won't have any feeling anyway and it would be "headlights on" all the time...any thoughts (pro or con) on that? Also, if there is a skin paddle circle does that affect how Vinnie's 3d will look?

    Thanks ladies, Tami

When my plastic surgeon made my nipples, he was able to clean up and reduce the size of the scars around the nipple.  When I had my tats done, the micropigmentation specialist in my PS office used the scars as part of her design.  They defined the circumference of the areola and seemed to add texture to the coloration.  They look great.  I can't even see the scars anymore.  As far as headlights go, for a while after the nipple surgery I had some height to the nipples.  However, they eventually calmed down and now I have a suggestion of a nipple.  In a tee without a bra I can see a slight outline of the nipple.  It is just enough for me.  I am glad I went with the whole package.

My nips shrank down just like Janetanned....you can just see a suggestion of one without a bra. It was exactly what I had hoped for as I didn't want the headlight look, especially with just one rebuilt nip. I then had Vinnie do the tat. It's as about a perfect match as you can get! However I also just had the implant recon so mileage may vary! :)

Any suggestions on what I should wear when I go see Vinnie on May 15?? Can I wear a bra after the tats, or should I take maybe a camisole that's a bit more loose? Also, I'm pretty numb where he will be tattooing, but wonder if I'll be uncomfortable for the rest of the day. We are staying with friends in MD for that weekend and they asked if I will feel like going out to dinner that evening.

    Any advice/info is appreciated. :)

Ironmag - a bra is required by Vinnie. They will put telfa pads over the tats and give you plenty to change out according to directions. You will be wearing the pads for several days so bring bras. You won't be sore or uncomfortable. My DH was worried that I would need a pain pill, but Vinnie's cute wife said I would be fine and I was. We went to a great restaurant for lunch right after for crab cakes that they recommended. I am originally from DC and thought I had eaten some of the very best cakes MD has to offer, but this was to die for. This is so different from surgery - a piece of cake. Really.

ironmagnolia - MartyJ is absolutely right - you will need a bra to hold the telfa pads in place. (http://www.vinniemyersteam.com/the-process/) Vinnie and his wife Robin will give you a bag full of telfa pads and packets of neosporin with written directions on what to do and when. I was surprised I had a lot more feeling than I'd thought, so the tattooing itself was uncomfortable but doable. And afterwards I had no problem whatsoever. I did switch from neosporin to A&D ointment once I got home, but other than that, just follow the directions and you'll be fine!

How do Vinnie's tattoos look in the long term? I was recently quoted a price of $800 for the pair of 3 D tats. Just wondering if they fade? I still have my exchange surgery yet and possible fat grafting. So, I have lots of time yet to think about it. I s

kingster, I think I am in the minority but mine faded and actually lost pigment in one spot within the first couple months. I am not sure why , maybe it is just my skin, but Vinnie also tried to tattoo over my radiation tatt marks and they did not take either. I am going to see him in California next month for a touch up. I will ask him about neosporin vs a&d ointment.

    Cascader,

So Glad to hear you were able to get an appointment with Vinnie in CA. Is there a charge for touch up? Was your tattoo done on radiated skin or on new flap skin? ....

... Dr. Kline set me up to have Renee do my 3D tats at MUSC in Charleston. She is here all next week but I have to wait till next time to be further out from last surgery. ...

....Cheers to everyone getting tats and crossing the recon finish line!

Hi Pink, yes, I was happy and surprised to finally get on his San Diego schedule. Going to make a vacay out of it and booked a place right on the beach. My tatt is on my flap skin , I still have a football patch. There is a small fee for set up that I am happy to pay. Glad you are able to have Renee do yours, if I was not able to see Vinnie in CA I was going to FL to Renee. As you know, it's all about the beach! Will let you know how it goes.

do most nip tatts need to be touched up? I didn't go to vinne but mine looks like it could use a touch up.

I think sometimes they do. My tattoo is on my flap skin and has been explained that it does not have the same blood flow. So I will wait and see, he went pretty hard(deep?) so hoping this time it lasts. vinnie is a great guy, always enjoy my time.

Thanks Pink, did a shot of vodka prior :)

Do you ladies still have the large scars ?   They couldn't spare anything on me.  So I have the huge purple deep scars that show through shirts.   I thought, "What's the point of the tats when I still have these deep scars?".

Any advice ?  I personally hate my foobs but I'm alive.

I still have purple lines but they are fading. The tats make them looks less obvious.

Tessa - Have you considered laser? I had some old scars from my original MX that I had layered before my DIEP - I was amazed that after 5 - 6 treatments they were flat and natural skin colored. I still have purple scars along some areas from DIEP. These lines are the same ones from my original MX and run across the top of the breast into the center. Laser is next up for me, but I wanted to wait until the scars had at least 18 - 24 months to mature (per my doctor).

uds17. Did the tattooing hurt at all? Would like feedback from any of you who have completed this process. Thanks Trici

It stung quite a bit for me the day of and for a couple weeks afterwards. It was no big deal and I was glad to know I had some feeling there.

hartrish - Mine hurt, but then again I apparently have really thin skin. (I had no idea how much so until I flew all the way to Maryland and Vinnie nearly sent me home!) He had some reservations, but we talked it over and decided to give it a try. Heck, I was already there... It hurt a bit during the process, but not once he was done. We had agreed that the first tattooing would more than likely have to be followed by a second one just to ensure color retention. So I'm meeting up with him in California at the end of June for my second go...

Is anyone else going for a California appointment the last week in June?

Mine hurt a little bit but more like a good tooth cleaning where they nick your gum every once in a while. And Vinnie is really good about keeping your mind occupied!!

grammakathy! - Yay for you! My appointment is in the early afternoon on Friday, the 26th. (I was able to pick a date way back in January when I was in Maryland, so I figured this way I can just make a long weekend out of it.) Guess you probably wouldn't want to hang around for three days, huh?
