nerve pain 4 yrs later
I have nerve damage in my arm after a mastectomy and lymph node removal, but 4 yrs later, i have new nerve pain in the very upper abdomen just under where my left breast was. I had 1 dr tell me nerve pain can jump and another dr said it was from scar tissue. Both opinions make sense except the part that it is 4 yrs later. Has anyone had the same problem or know of someone who has? Hoping it's not a new tumor that has attached to a nerve or infiltrated one. Any response would be greatly appreciated!

I'm 7 years out from partial and nodes. I'm suddenly regaining partial feeling in formerly numb areas of my breast and shoulder blade. Lately, I've noticed shooting pains from bc area to armpit. Now I have an area of pain: It "feels" like it's between my ribs and the surface of my breast. I have a sense that it's smooth muscle maybe. It's intermittent, and when it's painful, I notice that it hurts more when I breathe in. I feel no lump at all. I'm seeing my doc on Tuesday.

Yes, I've had nerve pain many years out from surgery in the area of my mastectomy scar. Just this month I had some really annoying tickly feelings that turned into very intense pain. The tickles lasted a week, and the pain came and went in about a day. I think I aggravated the area when I was lifting several 5 gallon plants in my yard, although at the time it felt fine and only started to bother me the next couple of days.
The nurse suspected I had overused my arm and started asking me a bunch of questions about my activities, and later when I got home I realized that I had definitely done enough over exertion to excite the nerves in the area again, even after all these years.
Good luck, newbie. Apparently it's fairly common to disturb the nerves and to have intermittent pain until they settle down again. But it's good to check it out in any case.
