5 Days Post Surgery & Still Waiting for Test Results

Options

I just had lumpectomy surgery Tuesday 2/17 for Stage 2 Invasive Infiltrated Ductal Cancer. I am still waiting on test results to see if it spread through my lymph nodes and to see if I have to have radiation or chemo and radiation. Does it normally take this long for test results? I am trying to stay positive but the waiting is the hardest part.

In the meantime, I have started an awareness campaign to try to do something good out of my bad news. Read more here:

Dear wendypoprock, welcome to BCO and we hope your recovery from surgery is trouble free. May your biopsy results come soon and show clear nodes. Biopsy result time depends upon the facility and their workload/system. We hope yours come ASAP. Waiting is a very difficult time - everyone here will sympathize.

Keep strong and keep us informed.

I also had surgery on Feb. 17th and was told by surgeon it should only take a few days. No word yet and I understand it is so difficult. I waited a month for BRCA tests to come back and it was excruciating. Came back negative so I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node and auxiliary node biopsy. I am sending you postive thoughts for a negative result. Hang in there.

I had a lumpectomy on Thursday, Feb 12. On that day, my BS said it would take about 10 days. I called on days 10-14, I was nice but firm. I'm in New Orleans and had surgery Thursday before Mardi Gras, when apparently half the medical staff at my hospital took vacation.

Nurse was kind as well and said she sometimes it could be just waiting on a signature.... that wasn't very reassuring.

But finally got a call back mid-day on day 14 from nurse who said usually our protocol is for the doctor to give you the results, but he's in surgery all day and I know you've been waiting. So she read them to me and he did call back a few hours later.

This was the LONGEST two weeks of my life. I felt I couldn't think or plan or even breathe... And people kept asking, "how did it go?" "Have you heard anything?" I know they were being caring, but the last day or so, I wanted to scream, "I DON'T KNOW!"

Praying your results come SOON! In the meantime, try to focus on projects or something to take your mind off of it. Good luck!

Dear allicat1214, 14 days is a long wait but we often hear of these long waits when a holiday is involved after biopsy. It is a very scary time at best but extended timeframes are very hard. Glad you now finally have your results.

    All the best to everyone
