Left breast, Stage 1, ONCO type. Surgery on Feb 26.

Felt a lump three weeks ago. Went to gynocologist, who sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound. Biopsy last Monday of breast and axillary lymph node.

Stage 1, no lymph node involvement. Blood test and xray tomorrow (Monday, Feb 16) and MRI on Tuesday.

Two sons, 12 and 7, who don't know yet. Married.

Treatment through Baycare system. Seriously considering double mastectomy and rebuild.

Maternal aunt died of breast cancer, and paternal grandmother died of ovarian. Not taking any chances.

Any insight for this stage - what to expect. Oncologist doesn't know if I'll need chemo yet.

Thanks.

Welcome to BCO tracymba, we're glad you found this safe, knowledgeable and compassionate forum, but sad you had to.

It is a scary time but if you want better feedback, people need to know what type of BC you have as each has its own implications. Stage 1 and no lymph node is a positive start, but is only a part of it, do you know what form you have and any oncotype score yet would all assist members freely giving you their feedback.

We wish you all the best.

    tracy...

    sorry about your dx.

regarding BMX...it doesn't affect your survival rate..and the surgery is very invasive. so think hard before doing something so drastic. when you have surgery like that you also have the risk of LE. i developed LE on my surgery side and it's not fun.

i highly recommend you read this book Anticancer A new way of life. it's a good start to read why cancer is such an epidermic decease and how to build our immune system stronger to fight. it gives you a sense of control of your own destination.
