My sister was treated for breast cancer and had mastectomy for both her breasts. She survived the cancer and is doing fine. She is looking for a good surgeon to do the breast reconstruction. She is living in Toronto and prefers to do the surgery there itself. We talked with a few surgeons like Dr. Sliwin, Dr. Lista & Dr. McLean. She seems happy with all of them, but wanted to make sure of their treatment. We talked to a few people who got treatment from any of these surgeons and got positive opinions for each of them. She had read lots of reviews online from sites like Realself and goodsurgeonbadsurgeon.com but couldn't reach a decision yet. Can someone help us find who is the best?

Personally, I would recommend that she work with one of the specialists at a breast reconstruction centre at one of the major hospitals. Both Toronto General and Sunnybrook specialize in this and the doctors there don't do anything else. I had mine done by Dr.Lipa at Sunnybrook and she is outstanding. I also heard good things about Dr. Zhong and Dr. Hofer at TGH.

    hi

Personally, I would try to get Dr lipa at sunnybrook... Little brusk, but absolutely fantastic outcome record!

Ps ... If your sister had radiation, she may want to totally avoid skin expanders, and seriously contemplate complete flap failures before going forward... She may be able to get custom made lightweight breast prosthetics made if she has manulife or other good insurance plan... See my post about this issue on kingston group thread... Or search irene healey at new attitude on Internet... Ask me anything! Take care
