Faith was so good at the hospital while I had my test.
they took her in the back so she would not get anything
from the tests, she kept watching me threw the whole thing
and then she got to come over and was like I was gone all day.
Dogs and friends are wonderful!

My babies were keeping my legs warm this morning. They were sleeping on either side of me.
-
Animals are humans with 4 legs and a lot of love.
-
Yep. Woke up to Jackson sleeping by my legs and Princess in between me and the hubby, purring away.

Got a new furbaby just now. When we met Dozer he sat in front of us. Got a few rubs then laid down on the floor. Good with visitors. All around mellow dog.
-

Dozer's story from what the owner knew:
Dozer is about 4 or 5 years old. He was rescued by a lady from a family that didn't feed him well and he was skin and bones. She has had him for 5 months and he is doing well. Spoiled and well fed in fact. She has a service dog and is having issues handling 2 dogs. So she wanted to find him a good home. She is disabled and getting weaker by the moment. Very nice lady.
When we got there he barked once and sniffed DH and sat at his feet. After that he came over to me and sat down. We were able to sit down and chat with the owner and Dozer decided to lay down at our feet. He stared at us and begged for us to pet him. I am not sure who picked who. On the way home we stopped at the store to get him food and I stayed in the car with him. We met some friends in the parking lot and Dozer greeted them with no issue what so ever including a little girl that came by and was able to pet him.
Here are a few more pictures - He had alot of new smells and noises to get used to and he didn't let us out of his site for the first 3 hours. He learned quickly though, that marking his territory in the house, wasn't allowed. Took 2 corrections and hasn't done it since. He is finally settled down and is laying on his bed in my office... Lots for a dog to learn in a new environment. I really didn't want to bring him home today but DH said we will have to figure it out. Not sure what to do when we go to church tomorrow. The lady said that when she comes home she will find him laying on his bed, so doesn't think we should have much problem with him. Did tear up her house at all. We shall see - Dog proofing the house today to make it a bit safer...
I got on my new daddy's porch swing!
"Ok - let's rip this toy apart so we can play tug with the rope"- LOL had it shredded in less than 2 minutes and then they played tug with the rope. The owner has him playing outside and inside he turns mellow and stays by your side. Going to try to keep that going for him. It makes it a lot less clean up in the house.

I'm so happy for you GMA!! This is just what you needed!! Congratulations!!
-
Dozer is so cute! Congrats Gma!
-
Congrats Gma! Dozer is a handsome boy, and he sounds very smart. I am sure he will get used to the new rules of the house very quickly. -
Hello to all ! What a great topic ! A month before dx I adopted a pure bred Maltese 4 month old puppy from a shelter. It had been 4 years since my Bishon Pearl passed at age 18. I said never again, the heartache was too unbearable after Pearl passed...But there I was at the adoption place and I picked up this small ball of white fur and did not put him down the rest of the time, only handed him to my daughter to hold while I filled out the adoption forms. He was supposed to be picked up by someone else who had reserved him, but they never showed up. Also there were 3 others who wanted him right then and there. Fortunately my references were home at the time so the adoption people called them and they recommended me highly. So Louie follows me everywhere and has been a love bug thu surgery, recovery and radiation. He is so smart and funny and so cute. I truly feel that St. Francis sent him to me !!!!!

Spookie was a great nurse while I was in treatment. She is my avatar, that pic was her 3 rd bday. Do you have your boy in full coat? I love them long, short can be cute, but just not the same.
-
Dozer settled down last night on the living room sofa. Not on our bed. This is the greeting I Got this morning:
-
Laying on my lap.
-
My little guy Devin has been on my lap for the past 10 weeks since the BMX and chemo journey began!
Good thing we have a wide recliner. He fits right in along the arm rest taking care of mummy!
-
What a lover boy!!!!!!!
-
Gma, how wonderful. You look so happy!! -
Hi Spookiesmom,
My Maltese Louie has the short puppy cut. The picture of yours is great, such a beautiful coat! Maybe when Louie is older I will try the long hair look.
Where in Florida are you? I will be retiring soon and we are probably headed to sunny warm FLA. Went to college in St. Augustine and have been to all along the east coast : Jacksonville, Daytona, Ormond Beach, St. Augustine , Melbourne, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Everglade City (I think its called) and down to Key West. Also on the west coast to Orlando, Naples, Port Charlotte, Ft. Meyers, Marco Island, Sanibel, Sarasota. Not further up thru Tampa or the Panhandle. Am in central NJ enduring yet another snow storm !!!!! My Maltese Louie has an indoor sweater he wears inside plus a heavy outdoor coat for outside. I think he will like being a Florida doggie LOL!! -
My Oliver graciously agrees to share his queen size bed with me! in about the proportions in the photo.
-
ooo, Beachlady, where will you retire to? With your name,, I'm assuming somewhere along the coast! North FL,, especially inland, can have a bit of winter. We had nights in the upper 20's, but it doesn't last long. -
I am in Dunedin, next door to Clearwater right on the coast. Spookie has a winter coat, has worn it once. I enjoy taking care of her hair, mine is very short.

Had an issue with Dozer today. He goes crazy when he sees wildlife and becomes uncontrollable with his barking. If my DH wasn't here when this happens I wouldn't be able to control him. He didn't try biting or anything. But it looked like he would have gone through the window after the deer. Anyone have any ideas how to control this? We need to learn how to handle this better than we did today. Hubby got a short leash and pulled him away from the window and took him to the other room. He made him sit until he got in a relaxed state. Unfortunately, That took about an hour . It is hard to change his focus once he is locked on.
-
Love the greeting Dozer gave you Gma.
-
Oh no GMA. Maybe you can keep the blinds closed when you're DH isn't there until he gets used to his surroundings? Is he treat oriented? Maybe you can train him with a treat to redirect him? My young dog can be redirected from anything with a treat! haha
-
He shreds the blinds - we put a matt on the floor and took the bed out next to the window. He has been very good today and even had a visitor that played with him at lunch. That helped. Slow, He wouldn't redirect with treat - My DH had to sit on him to get him to chill. He learns quick. I have to remember when we first moved here, Tigger had the same issue and she got over it. We are hoping the same happens here.
-
I'm sure glad Dozer doesn't do this. He is starting to settle in and now when I say "come" and take him in the other room, he lays down then I will let him back in after the deer have left.
This is his new spot under my desk after DH leaves for work.
-
awwwww he will be ok, just takes a bit of time.
-
He is very strong - if he goes crazy - he turns into a whole different dog and jumps and barks. He jumped on me the other day and hit my incisions even though I backed up. Opened my wound a bit. A few friends are saying its time to use a shock collar on very low, just to get him through this.. I don't like that idea.
-
Gma - have you talked to your vet about Xanax or something similar? It seems that Dozer wants to do the right thing, but is having some transitional issues, and the deer are some kind of trigger for him. An anti-anxiety drug might help take that edge off so you can get through to him in the middle of one of the deer incidents. It won't be covered by insurance, but if you google the name of the drug plus the word coupon, you can find coupons that substantially reduce the price. We just moved, and our little min pin is hyper anyway, and the disorder of packing and getting ready to move just pushed his anxiety level through the roof. His behavior started regressing - he began peeing in the house, eating his poop, and exhibiting all kinds of other anxiety issues like he did when we first rescued him. (His previous owner had mental health and addiction issues, along with hording tendencies, so he had a lot of behavioral issues when we first got him.) He also has a severe heart issue, so the last thing he needed was to be whacked out with anxiety. We talked to the cardiologist who said Xanex would be OK. We found a coupon where we got a 30 day supply for a little over $8. It's been very helpful - Mikey is still quite active, but it's back to his normal levels, and he's not exhibiting the other issues anymore. We moved Sunday, so we're still surrounded by boxes, but he's actually settling in quite nicely. We'll keep him on the Xanax for another week or so, but he's so much better that I've already been able to cut back his dose to half pills.
