wren, I'll be in your neck of the woods on Tuesday - sep 4. In Seattle and paulyaup. Going to the sew show to help my friend. She's teaching and has a booth there. Looks like we'll have good weather. Doesn't look like rain.

Wren-Seattle traffic is as bad as the Bay area... which is hideous. We see an audiologist at Seattle Children's and the traffic is AWFUL. They are super good at Seattle Children's so we keep doing it. crazy.. You are right about all the bridges in Portland OR! I got in the wrong lane one time because folks were being ever so nice (not) and wouldn't let me over. I went over the bridge, back and tried again to get in the far right... grrr my kids thought it was so funny... hmmm. "Hey Mom didn't we just do this" - shut up or you walk!

We went up to look at some open houses in Portland.. 350K for 1910 bungalow that needed a fair amount of work.. nice light, corner lot, tiny backyard outdated kitchen and new bathroom. Only 2bed one bath and maybe 1000sq ft.. prices have returned. I asked the agent in utter disbelief -"any offers?" "Oh yes he replied we have 5 just this afternoon. It will be gone by the end of the weekend." People are crazy. I know inventory is low but that's just nuts. Even the siding was old and needed work... yikes.

    SCAM ALERT!!!!!!

I got a really weird text today, said there was a restriction on my debit card. That I should call this number on the bottom. Didn't identify my bank, or the type of card.

So I called my bank instead. They checked, all is ok with my card.

    Scarey!!!!

Smaarty, We should try to have coffee or lunch. Maybe I'll go to the show.

I've been meaning to ask you about sewing patterns. According to the measurements on the envelope, I need a 16 or 18. I'm suspicious because I'm a 10-12 in ready to wear. I tried on pants today and I think I'm going to have to make them. I just want some simple straight leg pants with pockets for this summer. Dressier than jeans, but not by a lot.

wren, ready to wear clothes have various sizes depending on brand, it's mostly vanity sizing. When you make your own, it's truer to what you really are. I know, that can suck. I used to make all my pants since I couldn't find anything to fit me. Once I had a pattern that worked, then it didn't matter what size it was. You start with your measurements than tweet it as needed. Hope you can make it to the show. It starts on Thursday. I Don't know what booth we're in. I'll let you know.

Spookie, my PC or tablet have been trying to send emails out, seems like most bounce back so don't think any are going through. Anybody know how to stop that

Yes, Wrenn, I've seen what used to be the Alaskan Way Viaduct and the resulting traffic chaos from its dismantling. I thought I'd read that the borer was supposed to be functional again shortly after, being stuck in place for what, a year? Seattle seems to have the opposite of the magic touch when it comes to traffic projects - sinking bridges, broken viaducts, machinery stuck in place - I'm sure you could name a few more! It makes some of us in Portland feel a little better about our dysfunctional transportation systems. :) And yes, you're right about the bridges. Throw in a bunch of one-ways with street car lines and so forth intersecting and it's a real headache. If you're not in the correct lane you'll never get where you planned. It must be something about the Pacific NW.

I love visiting Seattle and we're up there regularly but I don't think I could ever live with the traffic...

Rosie, you're spot on regarding real estate in Portland. It's stupidly expensive and I honestly don't know where people come up with the $$ for some of these houses. It's not as though the economy is that great.

I hope everyone else is staying in and staying warm tonight.

Yes, thanks Sass! Seeing that accident really shook her up! I've seen a couple happen, and you just go numb...... We got about another foot last night... and it isn't done yet. It's only 15 degrees out... WTH??????????? I had planted lettuce and spinach seeds last week in little planters... I was just being hopeful...

Spookie, that also happened to me once, right after my debit card was "read" with that RFiD reader from out of my hand-bag. Capitol One kept sending me these letters, which I FINALLY opened one time, and someone was trying to open an account under my name, AND my SS number! It was the same "people" that had stolen all my information in the first place. So just pay attention to your accounts... Glad your's was nothing to worry about!

    image

And how is Blondie doing? xoxo

You guys were talking about Real Estate.... DD in Orlando tells me about those properties all the time... But some of the most beautiful homes, sell for less than the ones here in our neighborhood! And they have big yards, and in nice areas!

They are scraping so many old homes here now, and then putting up those 3 story flat-topped big double town-homes..... With no yards! Guess that's what people want nowadays... And the new people are all younger, like in their 30's, with no kids yet, but they must have money... Each unit sells for $800,000 or more..

And here we sit in our little 1886 Victorian.... Nothing modern... But the prettiest 100 year old Colorado Blue Spruce in the front yard, a BIG side yard with plenty of room for my gardens, right next to an irrigation canal... A BIG outside back patio, another garden, and 2 dinky garages! But it's home. It just matehes "us"...... Old and homey.... Ha!

We have Foxes, Raccoons, Coyotes, Squirrels, and those are just in the HOUSE.... Ha! Just kidding! We put food out for all the "neighbors".... All the BIRDS! And lately we have Blue Jays, along with the Wood-Peckers...(calm down Sassy) and Sparrows and Crows.

We have to drive quite a ways to hit any traffic... And I-70 isn't that bad, unLESS you are a skier, or someone who has a job... then THAT traffic isn't any fun at all. It's funny how as you get older your life changes soooo much!

No driving the kids around, or even getting OUT if the weather is bad... like NOW for instance... And I don't even drive at night, or go anyplace far. Just no-where that we need to go! So WHAT traffic....

Wren, I still have relatives in the Seattle area. Haven't been there since the Spring of '79.

Have been looking for a slipcover for my recliner. Got one this week that I was sure was going to work, ha! Didn't fit my recliner at all, took it back and got a refund for it. I started looking at others online but not sure that I wanted to put out the money only to have the same problem again. So I had a couple of blankets that I'm not using, so I tried both on the chair and found one fit perfectly. Will use that one for the winter time and then during the summer, I'll throw a sheet that I'm not using on my chair. Money saved and I wish I had thought about that in the first place!

Spookie- I have had those texts before. I know my bank will call me on my cell if there are any concerns about my card (for example, one time they saw I used the card where I live but charges were coming in from a CVS in Michigan).

Also for everyone, I got a robo call message on my phone saying it was the IRS and they were filing suit against me. There was a warning in our local paper just this week about IRS scammers trying to scare people into forking over money (usually a bank account or debit card) or they will be arrested and put in jail. IRS does not operate this way with threats. So be aware.

    Have a good Sunday everyone!

when Target got hacked, I got an official letter from my bank saying my card "may" have been compromised. I had used it there during that time span. Letter said to come in, they would issue a new card. This text had nothing like that. It just set off all kinds of warnings in my head. And I did hear about that IRS scam too.

This is more what our Wood-peckers look like.... That one of yours looks like a punk-rocker....

    image

It's now up to 20 degrees... And still snowing on top of the other foot or more... They say we had a "flash-freeze" yesterday.... when the temps droped 30 degrees within 10 minutes, when the snow and wind came howling through! No WONDER the streets froze up so fast!

LOL Chevy, basically your right. If memory serves me right my woodpecker was thought to be extinct. Somewhere in the middle USA Missouri? Anyways hadn't been sighted for 50 years?

At 19, I had an accident on black ice in Detroit. I hit a parked car. I called Dad and my Uncle Frank was there. He was our insurance agent, I said it was my fault. He said he be right over. The cop came to make the report and I'm in the back of the cruiser. His car was directly behind me. Another car slide into his car. His head went down, I said it looks okay no one seems hurt. Poor cop says that the lieutenant had to come out and make a report. Then he would have to write a report in triplicate. Then two more cars slide into each other.

At this point they're five cars involved, Dear Uncle Frank drove around the corner. Poor guy, I said I was responsible. I thought he'd have a heart attack seeing the five cars. I was responsible for only one.

Morning all, playing with the iPad seeing if I could crop it, I can't.

Blondie, good to see YA pop in.

    Cold here also. No snow.

Sas, I have 2 different styles of those sherbet glasses, some with an etching that is pretty. I will head to the city tomorrow for my post op. Hoping to get to thrift, not much time. Meaning I need to be on the road early if I want to. Moving early in the day has become a challenge, I have gotten lazy. Once the weather gets warm, I am a changed girl. No problem getting up & being somewhere at 7:00. I like to be close to home by dark. It's interstate, so don't mind driving for awhile. Our 2 lane highways are scary after dark. Lots of critters.

    Patty, feeling any better?

Academy Awards on tonight. Embarrassed to say, I have not seen one movie. I used to see most. Now, can't watch violence, makes me ill. Don't like Sci Fi. I did watch most of Fault of the Stars last night, on TV. Pretty contrived, but I like the girl. She was on Descendants with Clooney. Still bummed Clooney did not get the Academy Award for that.

    Happy Sunday

Sassy- I have Amica Insurance for a good 20 years, and for the past 11 on my home. I have had claims on my home with some hail damage/roof damage the past few years and they were very good with that (the true test of an insurance company). Claims handled well and professionally. I suggest you reach out to them for a quote.

hH1, you can crop on your iPad. Pull up the pic, hit edit, you'll see the crop button on the right. Drag corners where you want them, hit save. It will crop but not make it smaller.

Patti, hope you make it home today. Feeling better?

Patty- Yes bust out.. AMA! Ha just kidding.. I would be utterly despondent if I was stuck in a hospital for 6 days... I think 24-36 hours is my limit, then panic sets in... clock watching.. begging pleading.. get me out of here!! Patty I am sooo SORRY! I hope you feel better and go home today.

Spookie- and Jazz i think. We also had the phone messages that said if you don't contact the IRS office for immediate payment court action will begin. I have erased 2 of those off the machine! Then we also got nailed with the Target hack a couple of Christmases ago.. Then our credit union called my husband one morning to ask if we had placed 900.00 worth of I-tunes on our credit card. My husband left work to get that sealed and stopped. We got all the money back because I-tunes had been hacked! It pays to check your accounts regularly for all the little chits out there looking to steal! Personally I like credit cards with credit unions because they notify you faster if something looks crazy.. like 900.00 worth of I-tunes!

Momof2- I got a cheap slip cover at big lots for one of our recliners. Our one cat likes to scratch just the one chair and we nixed that. I have also gotten great slip covers cheap on line.

Woodpeckers.. we have the Downy Red headed wood peckers all over here. The big brown Flickers are more rare. Hate to rub in good weather .. it got up to 60 degrees and SUNNY! It's sunny today and the dafodils are out! Our snow pack is only 10% and we will be begging for water during the summer. sigh.. Stay warm all of you from the Rockies East!

We've got pileated woodpeckers showing up just this weekend - I heard one several times yesterday. Chevy's looks like a flicker to me. haven't seen the downeys yet this spring but then I haven't refilled the suet since the last time the squirrels stole it a couple of weeks ago, either. It seems like there's always someone who needs feeding around here...

Sorry everyone else is still buried in snow and ice. We could sure use some of it here, as Rosie mentioned. Why didn't I buy a rain barrel last fall??? Oh yeah, because I was overwhelmed by the dx and how much treatment was going to cost.

Patty, yes agree with HI1 get sprung. How's DH and the kids? I had a chocolate cake recently. My counselor's sec. made it. Double chocolate with whole chocolate chips with double chocolate creamy to die for frosting with chocolate shavings. HMMMmmmm. Hungry?

Jazzy thanks about Amica. DSlawyer does mostly insurance law. Works with many companies. When I asked him who he respected the most a year ago. He said Amica. Through the whole process that he works with them on something, he says they are the best. I looked into them. They have an office in Tampa. I forget why I didn't choose them when I ditched Hartford car insurance. I'll relook :)  I had a bad experience with Hartford on a bathroom claim. Only claim since I was with them(1998). Bad taste now, want them out of my life. But they are by far the cheapest. Have thought, since I know how they operate on a claim now, I could be more proactive and protective. I did have the agent I'm working with now on car insurance caution me to think twice about canceling since Hartford has a non cancellation policy b/c of the AARP connection.Thoughts on that?........Jazzy How did you end up in New Mexico from the East?

HI1 Yay moving forward with shoulder. Have you started to feel strange when you drive by a thrift and you don't stop? :) Those folks I collected a slew of pieces of Federal-clear Windsor pattern for about 14 months, I took the stuff to Tampa. There are about 20 pieces--not sure? It started out as a few and grew. We couldn't get together. May not be able to see them when they go through the stuff. BOOhooo. No fun. It was a wedding present. Will try to get Ds to delay giving it to them until I go over for the BX @ Moffitt shortly. .... Yes, night driving is starting to get real interesting. Another body part changing for me UGH. Stay safe....... Same re: academy Awards. Last I watched was when Nicholson and Helen Hunt won for As Good As It Gets. Okay, now I really feel old. That movie was 1997(IMDB)---------17 years ago. Loved it though when Helen Hunt walked across the stage after receiving her award. Nicholson was in the front row.The acknowledgement between them caught by the camera, was very special. A moment that will not be in any Oscar blip. Now haven't seen any nominated films.

Hopeful :) glad to see you here more and more. Have you gone to Warm & Fuzzies yet? Nice. positive. relaxing, funny, comforting area :)

Blondie very weird. I was in bed last night and you popped into my mind. Hmmm she hasn't posted in a bit. I got up a bit later ---computer @ bedside. You had posted 28 minutes before. What kind of discharge plans are going on? Any luck with assisted living?

    @22222@@? Dutchy?
