Lbrewer,
My arm was not terribly swollen either. I had periods of consistent mild swelling. Swelling in trunal breast area Heavy arm. Read that LNT it more successful in early stage LE. -
I bet it was Morgan Creek Grill on Isle of Palms. Overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway with casual dining on the upper level and white cloth service on the lower. Enjoy!
-
that's it!!!!
-
I know I wish I would've done the transfer sooner. But it is not without risk. So Id weigh the benefits vs risks and decide with your doctor. Good luck
-
Pinkheart, good luck with your surgery tomorrow. Hope you breeze through this last one!
-
pink, levy me know if you want visitors. I can bring dinner!
-
Lbrewer,
Thank. U for your kind offer. Prob wont eat dinner tonight. Surgery took four hours. Pain but more meds kicking in. When do u leave CHS -
LaStar,
How r u doing. Wish u were at East Cooper to meet. -
It sounds like all the fun is over at East Cooper! I got out of Roper on Sat and am feeling a little better every day. I'm getting out for short walks and standing a little straighter. I hope you are resting well, PinkHeart! Despite the discomfort, it is so wonderful to have this behind us!
-
It's super quiet here in woman's floor here at East Cooper. Im doing good painwise but am queasy. ...... New friend giving me rides. Will b interesting when i discharge .... I wore leggings to hospital. This time the compression garment goes from boobs to below knees. Nurse took off shoulder straps because uncomfortable. Simehow will squeeze my light leggings over this thing for ride home. Discharge Tues at 5:09. Post op appt next week.
-
All~~ Stage 7 update Feeling much better today with queasy gone. Havent seen Dr Kline yet this morning.
...
Everything looks good but ouch!
...
I asked Dr Kline if he could refer me to MUSC so I could get my tats done there by Renee and easily submit insurance. .... He said he would check into it for me.
Renee, breast cancer nipple tattoo artist just sent me a very nice get well email.
-
Getting ready to discharge from East Cooper. I guess day two is when pain sets in. At least I'm eating now and looking forward to Thursday meeting lbrewr and I believe she mentioned MartyJ too. ... Again, do not wear tight leggings to hospital. Couldnt find my yoga pants or my Betsy's. ... They said two nurses are coming to wrestle the leggings on over the long compression garment for me. LOL
-
The leggings sound like quite a story! I hope they were able to squeeze you in!
-
Hey Pink! Is this the last of the surgeries? Glad you are doing well. I'll be interested to hear how your nipple tats go. Dr K made mine, but I still do not have them tatted. Like Cascader, I'm just checking in with the board. I still have the final surgery to do but will not do it until next year. I am getting stronger and feeling more like myself after the events of this past summer! Initial plans were for my body to absorb the fat necrosis (I had a lot) and have the final at the end of 2014, but the hematoma changed all that. My body has just about absorbed all my fat necrosis, but some is still there. It ought to be all gone by next year. Check on y'all later!!
-
pink, how are you feeling.
-
Lbrewer,
I am So glad I got to meet you last week! Going out to dinner really helped move me along in recovery. Thanks for driving me, too.
I did refrain from taking pain meds to drive to follow op with Dr. Kline. He asked how I was, and I responded ... The Usual. After Stage 7 it is the usual of Black & Blue galore.
I am one week post op and I felt like I was turning a corner but last night was really bad and had to take pain meds. So so swollen and right arm aching. He said I only needed to wear the long compression garment 48 hours, but wanted compression on radiation edema so I am tucking ABD pads in Genie bra under right armpit. I actual have a custom compression piece for that spot but I think it still packed from moving. He will see me again in 3 weeks. ... .... We talked some about 3D Tats and possibly having Renee come do mine at his office in 3 months. Also he is emailing with a doc at MUSC about me going there to see Renee for tats. Of course I would feel most comfortable with her doing at his office, but will see how it goes. ...
This fat grafting donor site incision on left hip/flank really painful. Doing a little yoga breathing to get through with Tylenol. -
Pink, can't wait to hear about your tattoos. I might be interested in something similar when the time comes. What is your timetable estimate on tattoos? I am still recovering from my Stage 2 SGAP surgery. While much easier than Stage 1, it is taking a little time. I want to post (for other ladies benefit) that I am much preferring my Nike Pro compression shorts to the hospital provided compression girdle--much more comfortable. I invested in a couple of pairs of shorts (from a chain sporting goods store) since I have to wear them 24/7 for a month. That's two more weeks for me in compression shorts. I'm feeling well, just impatient with lifting, bending, and driving restrictions. I keep telling myself that I have one chance at healing properly and to be patient! This too shall pass!!!
-
Duh, Pink I just reread your post and it says tats in 3 months. I need to pay attention to what I read.
-
HB,
LOL I've been having plenty of duh moments too. Dr K has you in compression for a month? Don't usually hear of that. I may put it on anyway because swelling still painful so maybe will help.
Maybe we can have a champagne tattoo party. If you are done you could have tats in three months. Most patients seem to have at least 3 stages ... oh how I wish. 😊 -
Pink, I am hoping to make an appt. with Dr. Kline in 2-3 weeks, just for reassurance that everything is a-okay, and I can discuss with him then when he thinks it is alright to proceed with tats. I asked him prior to surgery, if it was the last surgical procedure. He said that he hoped it would be if I healed properly, or I might need some more little tweaking if I was "picky". So I am hoping and praying for proper healing, as I am tired of surgery and medical treatment and want to get on with my life and spend time with my granddaughters.
-
HB.
I know exactly how you feel. I told Dr K I was surgeried out. He asked if the lack of symetry on my butt bothered me. I told him at my age no one looks at my butt!
I am seriously considering lymph node transfer as i am losing more and more strength in my arm. I just dont know if its muscle atrophy after radiation or lymph issues.
I want to be able to pick up my grandkids!
-
lbrewer: let me know if you go with lymph node transfer. I have lymphedema issues, too and I want to be able to carry those grand kiddos also. But if I go that route, it won't be for awhile. What's the point of looking good, if you spend all of your time in recovery mode? I want to spend time feeling good also!!!! I am ready for some fun!!!! Wanting to heal in time for a May cruise with hubby. Celebrating his 60th birthday and our 37th anniversary.
Pink: I have an appt. for Friday the 13th at the West Ashley office. Hopefully, I will find out possibilities for my tat schedule then. Probably will be after the cruise. Wonder if we could get a BOGO special--ha!
-
I gave up on looking good years ago! A cruise in May sounds wonderful. My mom will be 85 the end of April and I was thinking that cruise out of CHS might be nice.
-
lbrewer: bet your mom would have a great time!
-
Spent last week in beautiful savannah freezing to death! Pretty much decided to do the lymph transfer since I can only hold about 2 lbs with my right arm now. What kinf of therapy is involved after? They do it here in orlanod but I have too many past issues with the docs and can't go that route.
-
I understand that you were freezing in Savannah. I live near there and it was darn cold last week. I had cabin fever. Thank goodness it warmed up today. Lbrewer, if you do the lymph node transfer, please give us play by play, as several of us are interested.
-
I just want to mention for anyone planning to travel to Charleston that the lodging at Extended Stay America (ESA) was a great option. At $12/night, it saved us a lot of money, especially after catching the flu, having to postpone surgery, and staying an extra 5 days. There are kitchens and they provide kitchen supplies, so we were able to cook simple meals and save our money for nice dinners out at the wonderful restaurants. The Mount Pleasant ESA was booked so I never saw it. The ESA by the airport smelled like smoke in the lobby and hallways, but it is being remodeled and will be completely non-smoking. The ESA farther north was remodeled already. We rented a condo for part of our stay when family was coming to help, but having the ESA suites was a huge help and very comfortable. You can arrange your stay with the American Cancer Society with a doctor's referral.
-
Wow! Good to know! How are you feeling?
-
Feeling better! I'm still dealing with nausea and dizziness from different antibiotics, but hopefully my drain will come out tomorrow. How are you feeling?
-
Good to hear that it's getting better, but a bummer about the nausea. I'm doing good as well...hip drains are still doing their job so they'll stay in for the full 6 weeks. Dr. K said to pull them at 6 weeks. I did develop a seroma in the left breast. Chris and Dr. K got me into radiology at my local hospital where they did an ultrasound guided drainage/culture, but they decided to put a catheter in as well. My breast feels a lot better, but the catheter site is really uncomfortable and I'm back to pain pills
I was happy to be off of them. I'll go back to the hospital tomorrow for them to remove the catheter, but I have a feeling they will leave it because it's drained about 75cc's since Friday night. I have to follow up with my breast surgeon here this week. I'm just hoping the culture comes back with no infection. Who's pulling your drain for you?
