Did you have an mx or bmx? If so, did you have rads? And lastly, if you DID have rads, did you wait until after to do your reconstruction? Most interested in flap. Thanks.

I am planning a bmx/mx depending on what my PS advises. I have one more Taxol treatment next Tuesday then surgery planned for April 17. I was planning surgery/reconstruction on that date but I have to do radiation so now I'm planning to skip reconstruction until after radiation. I have chosen the DIEP flap over implants because my PS says after radiation that is a good option.

I had an MX and rads. MY PS recommended waiting a year before having reconstruction to let the vessels and skin heal as much as possible. I had a TE put in at the time of surgery. Hoping to schedule a DIEP in April.

I am a little irritated at the first PS for not mentioning this as an option. Why wouldn't he?

I had a UMX with immediate DIEP and had rads about 8 weeks after. Both my PS and RO were confident there would be no problems and they were right. The DIEP breast held up great. Being HER2+ I had neoadjuvent chemo so it was nice to have all the major stuff behind me when I started rads. I did have a minor outpatient revision surgery but it was mainly to break up scar tissue.

Rmanmom: Oh, that's interesting. I am going to meet with a RO on Friday to discuss things.
