Itching and Burning in breast a year after rads

Has anyone had sudden itching and burning suddenly a year after treatment? A couple of days ago, my radiated breast started itching and I couldn't locate where the itching was coming from. Seemed like it was near my nipple but trying to rub the area didn't help. Tonite all of a sudden my breast feels like it's on fire - a real nasty burning sensation. Something weird started yesterday evening I had a cherry red 1-2" rash on my non radiated breast. It's still there, but lighter. A couple hours later my radiated breast was just a bit red and the skin was stretched tight (like when you blow up a balloon but it didn't get bigger). I don't know if the 2 events are related or just coincidental. Is this just a late effect of radiation or is it an infection or something? My breast isn't red or stretched smooth tonite, but this burning is really nasty. Anybody ever have a late effect like this?

I am 3 years past radiation.  I sometimes have itching deep in my breast . . . I think it is where they took out the tumor.  I mentioned it to my oncologist because I am not seeing the radiation therapist.  He acted like he thought I was crazy.  He said he had never heard that one.  The funny thing is that I had a gastric bypass in 2002.  Sometimes I have itching in my scar area.  I really think it has something to do with scar tissue OR, I have wondered if the itching in the breast may be related to the little pieces of metal that they put in there to mark where the tumor was.  Don't really know . . . just speculating.

I don't know about itching, but redness could indicate an infection. Were I you, I'd be seeing my doctor to try to get it diagnosed and treated. I've had radiation but never had itching or redness like you describe. I hope it's nothing though.

I wonder if it's nerves reconnecting....? I'm just under 6 months from my last radiation so I can't speak from the same experience, but I do get some itching....even though everything looks fine.

I finished radiation on Rt. Breast Dec. 8, 2014. This week I have a lot of itching, but it also seems deep in the breast and not the topical Skin. It is not just the site of the lumpectomy, but rather under the breast, and to the side towards my lymph scar. It is driving me crazy! Don't go back to any dr. until April and that is with oncologist, not the Radiation Onc. ????
