Thanks for posting this, I read a little bit about it on a cancer patient's website. I posted about the HBO special which airs Feb 27th, I think that some of the material will be duplicated but that's ok.

Looking forward to watching this. The book was excellent and provides a great historical perspective on cancer and it's treatments. Read the book if you haven't done so already
-
I agree - the book is a great read, and if you ever get a chance to hear him on a podcast or similar, he's a terrifically articulate and intelligent man, well worth listening to.
I'm not sure if I can handle viewing the Ken Burns project at this point; I pretty much plan to wait a couple of years and borrow it from the library, but I'm certain it will be fascinating.

I assume this is a broad documentary on all cancers, not just BC.
I've heard good things about the book. I can't wait for this.

I would think so as the book does cover all cancers and their hx. It was very well written and researched by the author with a medical degree. I found it frustrating and depressing but hard to put down at times. It was very clearly written.

I'm reading the book now. Took a Kindle sample of it figuring that I wouldn't really like it, but ended up buying the book. I agree that it is a frustrating read in terms of knowing how long we have been mystified by this disease. That being said, it is clear to me that while the pace of treatments was desperately slow over centuries, with almost no advances, it now appears it is picking up a brisk pace. I really do believe it is conquerable.

Here's a PBS video trailer for "The Emperor of All Maladies" which will be broadcast in less than one week.
"Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Siddhartha Mukherjee, tells the complete story of cancer, from its first description in an ancient Egyptian scroll to the gleaming labs of modern research institutions. At six hours, the film interweaves a sweeping historical narrative; with intimate stories about contemporary patients; and an investigation into the latest scientific breakthroughs that may have brought us, at long last, to the brink of lasting cures."

I read it several years ago. Not sure I can stand to watch it at this point in my life.
