just diagnosed again need opinions like crazy

I had dcis before.  Now getting the results from the dr this morning, he said that it was t2, he got it all in the excisional biopsy.  Now, I have a masectomy in my future for prevention plus he would take nodes, test one to see if I need chemo or not (I hope not), then possible reconstruction at the same time.  I had radiation with the dcis so this would be the next step.  Since the cancer is out its like lets hurry and get this done immediately so we are talking a month at least.  In the meantime, he will send me to a plastic surgeon to discuss the reconstruction.  A lot of questions for you all.  

Anything to worry about having a masectomy, what are the chances no lymph nodes would be involved (he took the nipple with this biopsy so its more twd the front and original incision at 3:00 area left breast).  What is reconstruction like.  Hurt with a masectomy at the same time.  Drains uncomfortable?  Only wear a week?  How long out of work?

Sorry, my head is spinning, and I worry a lot.  I probably will have to take a pill but I can handle that.  But how long, like 5 years again but not tamoxifen because the surgeon I would get something like aroma based (sorry I know thats not the right spelling).  Are they any good?

    I had a BMX with immediate reconstruction and chemo after.  My margins were clear as were my  nodes, but my oncotype score came back in the intermediate range so I went ahead with chemo.

    I didn't think the BMS and immediate reconstruction was too bad.  I was out of work for 2 1/2 weeks including weekends and had drains in for two weeks.  One side came out at 1 week and the other at 2 weeks.

    After chemo, I am looking at taking Tamoxifen or an AI for 10 years.

    I can't answer your question about the mastectomy, as I haven't had one, but the pill he was talking about was most likely an aromatase inhibitor - there are several different kinds out there, and they are usually given to post-menopausal women or those who have their ovarian function suppressed. Tamoxifen affects the way certain cells react to estrogen, while AI's lower the overall levels of estrogen in the body. AI's are usually given for 5 years, similarly to the Tamoxifen, but some are starting to now prescribe them for 10 years. A friend of mine who was just diagnosed with her second BC was told she would now be on them for life. She had previously taken them for 5 years and was diagnosed 3 years after going off them, so they seem to think she started the new cancer as soon as she stopped the AI's.

    The chances the nodes are involved depend on both the size and grade (aggressiveness) of the tumor, so no one here would be able to answer that for you.

    I had a double mastectomy on July 15th of last year. It sounds worse than it is. I did not have reconstruction so I can't comment on that part. You won't know if any lymph nodes are involved until after the surgery. Take a deep breath and know things will work out. Best of luck on your upcoming surgery. 🐱🐱
