Hi, all,

Tomorrow (Wednesday) at 1:00 Eastern time (that's 10:00 on the west coast) the Lymphatic Education and Research Network (LE&RN) will offer a live-stream symposium on How to Find a Qualified Lymphedema Therapist, a subject many of us continue to struggle with, for sure! It will be presented by Dr. Judith Nudelman, a family doctor, med school instructor and LE therapist. Here's how to join the Symposium:

Grab a cup of tea (or better yet, cocoa!) and join in!

I just joined this website because of my severe lymphedema.

In my research I learned that a LANA certified therapist was the type to look for.  So.. I was wondering if that come up in the presentation.

    Janna, hello!

The symposium has been archived here so you can watch it:

Of course it does cover LANA certification, but also points out that many well-trained and experienced lymphedema therapists have not opted to take the LANA certification test, which is expensive and offers them little since there is no legal mandate behind it. Some, like my own excellent therapist, do not join LANA because they already have long waiting lists for treatment so they do not want to be listed as available.

Sadly, LANA does not offer even superficial supervision of the therapists they certify, so patients who find a LANA-certified therapist who is not using best practice protocols have no recourse through the organization. There is no oversight of the practices of lymphedema therapists, which is why this symposium is so important--we need to understand what proper treatment is so we can be sure the treatment we're receiving will meet our needs.

There's so much information in this presentation--all great information to have and to be reminded of!
