Here I go again - DCIS after IBC

Just found out that the lump I found on my right beast is DCIS. I was dx with TN Inflammatory BC in Nov 2013 and finished tx (chemo, left UMX, radiation) in July 2014. Found small pea sized lump in Nov and had punch biopsy and it was found to be benign. Was booked for follow-up with surgeon on Feb 11th and thankfully he did ano biopsy on lump (which hadn't grown) and this time it came back DCIS. I was about to go back to plastic surgeon to discuss reconstruction (planning diep) for prob late sumner - now been recommended to bring this forward if PS happy and have right mastectomy, and reconstruct both (had been undecided).

Feeling strangely calm and not in the shock I had in 2013. I'm so glad I had second biopsy. I suppose this is the best type of second recurrance (assuming not connected to prev IBS which presented v differently) I'm trying not to worry until I have something to worry about. Waiting for pathology to find out er/pr/her status and grade. Might not feel so calm once I find out more. :)

I'm so sorry that this piles on. I understand about the calm part--once you've been told you have inflammatory trip negative, not much tops that for shock. Me too.

Thank you, WinningSoFar, for your support. Its funny when diagnosed first time - it seemed that I was on the rarer and rarer end of BC. Every percentage group I was in was so low. Triple negative is feared by so many - but I made myself think that there wasn't much driving the BC, and that I just had to get through the next few years - and by say 5 years would feel safer. Now I don't know what to think but this feels so different - so doesn't seem to have shaken me (yet!) You do seem to have been through so much through all the treatment and recon.

With triple negative, I think it is true that after 5 years the risk falls dramatically. I'm just hanging onto that myself. I'm nearly 3.5 years into this. I don't think that DCIS would change your prognosis, would it?

We'll hold on together for the 5 year mark--there's room for both of us on this rope.

Been to my PS and have been put down for double DIEP with mastectomy on right. She played down DCIS as pre-cancer. My only fear is that there's other things lurking around. I had a mammogram yesterday and going back to see surgeon Friday. He the head surgeon and will do the mastectomy part in the same op as the reconstruction. Toying with just having MX but think will go for combined surgery. Feeling every ache and pain at the moment, but know that's my nerves.

Looking forward to that rope walk with you!
