one of my relatives friends suddenly has lymph leaking in face armpits groin etc. all the lymph node rich sites. His face as body is swollen and leaking lymph. Hospital put him on prednisone and sent he home while ongoing tests will be given in the next few days. I warned my friend that the person needed immediate evaluation from a trained MLD therapist and explained cellulitis. My relative told me it's wrong to give solicted advice and that the docs were taking care of it.at this point I backed off to keep family peace. WHats wrong with that person getting LE for no reason? Tumour blocking nodes?he has no Cancer that he knows of.

I think your relative is right. There are various causes for generalised edema, and this will be investigated by the medics looking after him.

A "trained MLD therapist" would have absolutely no role in his current condition until he has a diagnosis and the cause for the edema is established.

There are many possibilities as to why your relative's friend is experiencing full body edema and with 'leaking'. Some of the possibilities are allergy, meds, heart/lung/kidney/liver issues (but there could be so many other issues) that MUST be diagnosed by an MD before anything else is tried. In a case like this, especially with 'leakage' of fluid, I would be very surprised that any competent LymphEdema Therapist would see the friend without a current MD referral.

Your relative is right - you are not qualified to DX or say what TX should be.

Thanks folks, I totally agree that no one should get MLD without a docs referall and yes the docs do need to investigate further. I was mostly concerned that once they get evaluated that most doc where I come from don't really know much about MLD and so I wantEd them to be aware of that option and to watch for sudden cellulitis.
