Finally have surgery date 3/10/15 scared
My surgery date is in the near future. Am I the only one that is falling apart emotionally. I am usually such a strong person, but now I am unable to cope with anything without having anxiety and panic attacks. I feel really bad for not being stronger through all this.
I need help through this and my family doesn't understand.....

Hi Julie,
I am sorry you have to go through this. It is okay that you are feeling the way you are, it is normal. DO NOT feel bad! I am a strong person too and I felt the same way. I had insomnia and was super anxious. I tried to keep myself busy and also just got prepared by getting my house surgery ready and cooking meals I could freeze. I hope you have and get lots of support, it always helps mentally to have a cheerleader. I am a Christian so I found peace by giving it to the Lord. If you are too, ask him to help with your burden and He will!

Thank you scvmom65. Yes I am a Christian and I do pray, and was doing pretty good until last week. Now I have completely lost my marbles. The MO prescribed medicine for this, and I am scared to take it....guess I am going to have to give the fear to God and do what my MO is telling me to do.

Julie,
WE understand. I get the family not understanding part and I am certain almost everyone on here does too.
Come here and vent anytime.
What surgery are you getting?
Hugs.

Julie, what you're feeling is really normal. it really annoys me and messes with my sense of myself to take Xanax, but it's been a lifesaver. I do well during the day and fall apart at about 5 PM, so that's when I take the Xanax.

I am hesitant to recommend any supplements before your surgery so you may want to check with your doctor but I have recently been taking magnesium to help with sleep. I saw an article about it and people were saying they use it in place of xanex. I haven't used it on a night where I am really stressed out but I do notice it seems to help me sleep. Who knows? It could be a placebo effect.

Julie- It is always a shock to hear bad news, more so when it concerns us as we are the ones used to taking care of others...this is the perfect definition of a woman--someone who cares more about the well being of others than ourselves! We all come from so many different ways of life, different support groups, different challenges. The great thing is that our diversity benefits us--where one person is lacking, hundreds can step in and offer sound advice or comfort. I have an autoimmune disease--more than one actually--that no one in my family can relate to, yet having my family learn more about them helps them help me. The day I was diagnosed with cancer, I sent my friends and family a link from this very website regarding my diagnosis so that they could read about what I have and respond accordingly. This website is so good that one brother in law who is a pathologist copied it to share with his colleagues! You are in good hands here! Best wishes!

Julie this is a horrible thing for anyone to go through. You don't have to be strong! Just show up! That is what someone told me when I went through the beginning 4 years ago. It's OK to fall apart...I use to hide in the bathroom with the fan on and water running and just cry! My poor son thought I had really bad stomach problems for a long time!I can tell you it is terrifying but the beginning is the worst part. Once you move forward it somehow gets a little easier. I wish I could do what ever it took to ensure NO ONE would have to live this nightmare again, but I can't. I want you to know that you CAN and WILL get through this. Lean on us here that are going through it or have already gone through it. Some of my best friends are girls I met on these boards 4 years ago.
Medication certainly is an option to help you through the hardest parts. There is nothing wrong with that. I resisted it for a long time and finally gave in. I finally got sleep and some rest which was needed. You may also look into a local support group or call the American Cancer Society and ask about the Reach For REcovery program where they have a local survivor contact you. It really helps to talk to someone that "gets it".
Best of luck and hugs!
