herceptin and taxol
I am HER 2+, following a bilateral mastectomy, and sentinel lymph node dissection. Lymph node was negative. Starting Herceptin/Taxol in 2 weeks.
Any suggestions and any information about side effects would be helpful!

Don't know if you are stage 1 but this should help:

My 71 year old mom will be starting Taxol and Herceptin, too. I'm very concerned for her. I have been reading side effects and I'm hoping she can tolerate it. I think it's going to be very hard for her.

SEs vary a lot, with some people faring quite well. We hope your mother is one of those, with minimal problems.

Oh, my gosh! You sure have been through a lot! I am wondering if you went to Moffitt? I live in Bonita Springs and have just started on this journey. Any suggestions or advice you can give me would be appreciated. I am coming to Moffitt for a consultation, I guess, with a surgeon. I am really worried and scared and not sure what to do or where to go.

since my tumor was large I had to do chemotional first. I was on the TCH combo with a new drug called perjeta. The taxol can damage your nails. Half through my 6 cycles I had to put my hands and feet in ice (it's suppose to help your nails) Brrrrr. Its like my body knew I was getting my last treatment bc everything happened at once. My nails had a awful smell to them. (sorry to be graphic but it smells like you wiped with no toilet paper) I also had pus growing under my nails and was put on antibitoics. It's been 2 mths since I finished chemo and I'm still dealing with nail issues. My big toe nail just fell off one day.

I am in the same boat. HER2positive after mastectomy with tissue transfer. They went in for noninvasive ductal carcinoma and found the HER2. I am starting taxol and herceptin on March 20 and am a bit petrified. I am a 44 year old high school English teacher and mother of two very active kids. I have heard that I should look into wigs or scarves before treatment. I would appreciate any advice. I live in San Antonio.

JodyinSA, we are in almost the same situation. I don't know that I have any advise, but it's nice to know I'm not alone. I think the biggest shock was HER2 and the words that came after that (chemo, lose your hair, etc.). Some days are good, some days could be better.
