Should I do chemo?

With my biopsy, I was told that I was HER2++, but that it was DCIS, so that shouldn't matter. My tumor size was large enough that mastectomy was recommended anyway. Final pathology report found an area less than 1mm of possible invasion, with negative sentinel lymph nodes. I assumed that it was small enough and "possible", so it wouldn't matter. My oncologist told me yesterday that I should at least consider chemo. He didn't think either decision was a wrong one. I am just really surprised. We hadn't discussed chemo at all. Only radiation if I really wanted lumpectomy, but it wasn't recommended anyway. I am leaning toward not doing it, but I need opinions I think.

if I'd had a choice, I'd have said yes. I wanted to know I had done whatever I could to kill any stray cells.

    But it's a personal choice.

    Best wishes

I was diagnosed with ER+/PR+/her2- breast cancer in 1999, no lymph nodes, stage 2, grade 1 and did not do chemo and that cancer has not come back.

Then, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2011, same breast, same place in breast, stage 4, grade 3 and I have done chemo twice.

My onc thinks the second cancer is not a reoccurence of the first, but it seems like a huge coincidence to me that it's in the same place. Her reasoning is that an aggressive TN cancer wouldn't wait 13 years to reoccur.

I still don't know if I would have done something different. Both decisions seemed right at the time, and perhaps are still right.

Here is a topic that talks about micro-invasive Her2+ DCIS. I hope it helps you with a decision.
