Precursor to Mouth Lesions?

Options

I'm on my 7th day of FEC and  experiencing "sandpaper" patches on the inside gums of the upper teeth.  So far, I'm thankful that those are a bit painful only when I floss.  But I'm worried that those patches might be the precursor to actual lesions (which I'm scaaaaared to death of getting; I've already been thru so much with the first 5 cycles of chemo).  Did any of you who got mouth lesions experience the sandpaper patches first?  Or, alternately, are there any of you who had sandpaper patches that didn't progress to lesions?

Thanx in advance for your help!

KayB, thank you for your reply to my post (and please pardon the delay on my part in getting back to you: I've been overwhelmed by stuff since I last posted here [mother died; had to dissolve her estate; at the same time, had to start 2nd regimen of chemo, then move back to my house; then radiation the past 7 weeks): I am DONE with chemo (until the next attack of cancer :( ) and tomorrow's my last day of radiation (if the machine doesn't break down again {rolling eyes}).

Hope all is as well as can be with you! :)

Just concurring with kayb. Brush gently after every meal. Rinse several times throughout the day with a quart of water mixed with a tbsp of salt and tbsp of baking soda. And stop flossing. I was told the water mix works wonders.
