I had 38 treatments which some thought was extreme........not one problem......a ittle pink.....but that was it..........strange isn't it........and I am light skinned, althogh I tan and don't burn in the sun.........
8 of those were boosts too where they really hit you hard........
I used Aquaphor........Aloe Vera 100% pure.....I used it from day 1 which is what the techs told me to do.........they said don't wait for color to appear......start immediately.......not sure if that made a difference...........
So sorry you are having all that trouble...........
-
Oh boy Poppy. I hope you heal quickly. There was one woman doing radiation with me that had the same problem as you. She would show me during our appointments. I felt so badly for her - she looked like she was in so much pain.
When I started radiation I was so surprised my RO didn't want me using anything on my skin. I really questioned that because everyone else was using all these creams and lotions on the rads thread. He told me the only thing he wanted on my skin was 100% pure Aloe Vera. He didn't want me to even use that unless I started having problems. I had 0 skin problems - maybe just a slight pink towards the end. Like Ducky, I don't really burn and have always tanned easily. I had a total of 30 zaps with 5 of them being boosts - I was supposed to have 6 boosts, but I talked him out of the last one. My left girl has gotten noticeably smaller than the right one over the past year. That is the only visual SE for me.
Good grief Ducky.....38 treatments??? That's a lot of radiation!! Must have worked for you though - so glad you didn't have any skin problems!
-5??? brrrrrrrrr - makes me shiver just thinking about it.
Hi Glennie!!
EFT = Edited for typos
-
I used aloe from my plant, and i only got a little pink area towards the end, and a couple pinhead blisters. I saw many women burnt crispy, and then i started to wonder if they were giving them more. But then i read on another thread, that some of the chemos they give, really sensitize your skin. i would have hated it, to turn black and red, and blister and peel. yikes
-
Thanks.
I was caught off guard by the severity of the burns. I thought I would sail through rads. I have olive skin and rarely burn. I'm looking forward to the black skin peeling because it's crispy and tight now. Keeping the skin gooped up, alternating with aloe and cocoanut oil. Stupid boobs. Nothing but trouble!
-
Poppy.. Sorry.. I hope you heal quickly.. I agree.. Boobs are nothing but trouble. :-(
-
Poppy, I remember reading about bad burns and what their doctor prescribed on other threads. I included one of the threads below. Not sure what you're using, but this person used a Domeboro soak and Silver Sulfadiazine and covered with Telfa. If you scroll down and look at the bolded type, you'll see it. Maybe your RO can prescribe something like that? I hate to hear anyone having to suffer with burns. I heard about those items in other threads too. They are supposed to be effective.

Oh goodness, Poppy, that is not what anyone would expect to happen...I mean, in my imagination, I pictured being "fried" but I had read enough to know it usually is minor irritation. But I do remember hearing that the olive skin is more easily damaged. Have you had to stop treatment temporarily? I hope you find a remedy and that the pain is not too bad. Sending hugs.
FK, brrr that's cold...it was cold here today but the sun was out. I can't think about more snow..my driveway is a skating pond.
Good thing the fire's still going...

Snowing here. Mama Nature better find her meds and get back on 'em!
-
That picture is just way too funny Ducky!!
Actually my neighbors are awesome. Our front yard is fine - we have a gardener that takes care of that. The problem is our backyard. Right before my diagnosis, we tore out all the grass. Due to the drought, we are trying to conserve water any way we can. We were right in the middle of the project and never finished. When our neighbors heard about my diagnosis, they knocked on our door and wanted to help my DH. Of course he declined. So it's looking pretty bad out there for the past 1.5 years. Now we are back on track and trying to get it done before the California Dreaming gals come to visit.
Lucy, I'm good at giving direction too. In fact, I directed him to hire someone to pull weeds after we spent two hours out there. We are both too decrepit for that kind of work!! They are coming next weekend.
MB, If you have a Prime account, you can order it on Amazon. They bring it right to your door in two days!!
-
Slow-TP from Amazon. That's a hoot-but hmmmm. I'll see if they have it. Must be one with Aloe though. Thanks for the idea
-
Regarding TP... maybe try Kleenex tissues? Mine have aloe. We have 2 kinds of TP in my house, too. The kind for bathroom use and the kind for toilet papering friends yards. That's what happens when you have teens.
Nice weather here, but it's supposed to hit 80 at the end of the week. So much for the middle of winter.
My DH turned off the water to our backyard and the grass died. He needs to seed it, but he has too much on his plate between work, me, our problem teen and the other kids. What little grass is growing is mowed down by the wild rabbits.
We have some sad news. My sensitive middle son's lab mix is now blind. Same dog that has diabetes. My dad adopted a blind beagle and you wouldn't know the dog was blind once he got the layout of the house and yard down. When I walked him, I completely forgot he was blind. I'm using this info to help my son realize his dog can still have a happy life.
-
So sorry to hear about your sons dog. It's amazing how quickly animals adjust to stuff like that. It was in the 80's here today.
Here is my inspiration picture for my backyard......A girl's gotta dream. Wouldn't it be nice to have a REAL bonfire???
-
Slow......where did you get that picture of my backyard..........I told Home and Gardens Magazine they were not to publish it........oh well, no one ever listens to me..............LO
-
hahaha Ducky!! I knew it looked familiar!!
-
Poppy,, so sorry to hear about your son's dog. On Facebook, there is a group called Blind Dog Rescue Alliance. Perhaps they can give you some advice. The dog can definitely still have a happy life. It will probably be a harder adjustment for the humans.
Ducky, I LOVE your backyard, I think we should have the bonfire there.
-
Slow.. Love your pic of your dream back yard .. BUT.. What do you mean REAL Bonfire?? I'm shocked.. I thought our Bonfire here Is real.. :-) :-) :-) (Haha.. I know.. I'm seriously loosing the plot.!!)
-
Well....I meant REAL Bonfire at MY house. Some days I don't feel like traveling. haha
-
