You said you are having a Lumpectomy, that is good in that it means they already know it is fairly small.I was diagnosed at the age of 64,newly retired and thought I had the world at my feet.I had a Lumpectomy,8mos.Chemo.33 Rad.Treatments and 1yr of Herceptin because I had the HER 2 factor. If you trust your doctor and Oncologist then don't listen to all the bad stories. You can do this.My Tumor was so small it could only be detected with a Mammogram.I'll keep up with you on this board and maybe can offer some words to encourage you.The one thing I can tell you now is if you are going to have Radiation,STOP now using Deodarent that has Alumamanim in it.That will cause you to burn Take care and by the way I am now 70yrs old and Cancer free

I'm having a night sweat just thinking about flannel pajamas and I haven't even started Tamoxifen yet. lol
Thank you for your post, Eagle! I am so glad you are doing well. Sometimes the bad thoughts just get the best of me.
-
I'm cold one minute, hot the next.. it's so annoying.. I am now used to just waking up soaking wet.
-
Dear Friend,
Yes it does get better. I was your age when first diagnosed and will be 61 next month. I wanted so badly to be normal, but realized this is a new normal. I am not the same person I was, and not a victim. I am a survivor and you are too, it's an inconvenience, true, a big one, but you will be empowered knowing you are not alone and you have so much living to look forward to. Someday you will be an encourager of others having gone through this. Life is sweeter now, realizing each day is a precious gift! It's ok and normal to have anxiety even anger. Look for the joy and good people around you and reach out when you need reassurance. God bless you

KJE thank you for your words of encouragement. I wanted to let everyone know I am doing better. I had my lumpectomy on 1/12 and a re-excision on 1/29. I have healed well. I am stage 2A based on the size. Almost made it 1B but tumor was .4 over the cut off. My nodes were clear and my oncotype was 15 which means no chemo. I'll start radiation next month. I do wake up every day and think about BC but I am able to push it away. I have been enjoying everyday in a different manner than I ever did before. I can watch a movie without being distracted by my diagnosis. My husband has been so wonderful. He prepares me dinner every night and healthy snacks for during the day at work. He has given me more pep talks than anyone should ever have to give. lol. I hope that those newly diagnosed are able to read this and feel hope. If I can can pull myself out of the hole, anyone can! I thank you all for your continued kindness. This forum is amazing.

Yay Shelley! Awesome update.. so glad you are doing well. So glad that you don't have to do chemo. Radiation sounds daunting, but it will be over before you know it... I bought myself a treat at the end of every week, Alex and Ani bracelets.
KJ, that was a wonderful post
-
buying myself a gift at the end of each week is a great idea! Love those bracelets
-
OMG, Shelley, do NOT let our Idesim get you started on Alex and Ani! She got us all hooked on those bracelets!
Do NOT, for example, let her tell you that you could get them at zeeberry.com and that they have 15% off and free shipping!
So glad to hear you are doing well. Your husband sounds so excellent! Good boy, husband, with those healthy snacks! XXX
-
haha.. is Zeeberry still doing that?
That's a pretty good deal Shelley! lol
You push Vitamix, Bobo... .. I push bracelets
Oh and it appears you are now on the steam mop brigade now too! sheesh.
-

-
I am NOT pushing steam mops! Shelley, do not listen! I was ASKED for my opinion on steam mops.
FYI, right now I am pushing 'project 333,' Idesim.
Hi Shelley!

Hi Trvler...hope you are doing well.
Bobo, actually if I recall, the requested opinion was on spin mops and you started pushing the steam mop... just sayin.
I know you are pushing project 333... I feel poor M sweating every time you mention it
-
Oh, Shelley, you must learn about Project 333! (I am teasing, I am sure you have enough on your plate).
http://theproject333.com/getting-started/
I looked up 'capsule wardrobe' because I had a startling amount of surgeries this year and none of my clothes fit.
Idesim, M, is just fit to be tied over this! It is a delight.

shellym1, they are good dogs. Mine is getting older and I dread to think of that. When people come in, she goes crazy and acts like she doesn't have an ounce of sense but I tell them, when its just my husband and I here with her, she acts about like a cat, just lays around, never barks, just is a great dog. She has some peculiar ways, if you give her something to chew, she walks from room to room crying until you take it from her and put it under your leg or something. She's satisified its hidden then and she'll go on about her business. I wouldn't take anything for her. That was the one good thing, she really enjoyed having me home for 4 weeks after the mastectomy.
-
Shelley, that is my Princess Ava. She is a sweet baby. I think she is an English Bulldog mixed with pit bull,, she has very short legs! How cool that you have an animal rescue! Ava sends you many kisses.

I remember that exact feeling when I was waiting to have my surgery. I couldn't handle it at all. I was completely non functional waiting to get the cancer out of me. As a result, I think I made a poor decision and I picked a breast surgeon that could do it NOW instead of the BEST one that couldn't do it for a month. I imagined cancer going crazy inside my body for that 30 days. Now, two years and 4 reconstruction attempts later, I wish I had just chilled out and waited for the best surgeon. My ONC told me that nothing is going to change in 30 days, but I couldn't believe him. Take whatever anxiety medicine you need to take, do yoga, and try to enjoy the parts of your life that are still great. For me, I still got to read to my son every night at bedtime and that was wonderful. So- even when cancer seems to be taking so many things away, there are still great parts of life. Get the best doctors and then trust them. Don't rush anything. Most people will go through a really difficult time like this sometime in their life. This is your time. Just be nice to yourself and do the best you can. Chances are you will live a lot longer than 10 year!
-
Thank you Maureen! I did end up waiting for the best surgeon. It took over a month and I thought I was going to go insane. I wanted it out of me ASAP. I did consider going to a local surgeon who was basically just a general surgeon (not a breast surgeon like the one I used) because I knew she would get it done faster. I'm glad I waited. I did end up needing a re-excision but he is an excellent surgeon. I had minimal pain and aside from the incision I have no change in my breast.
