I am  15 year survivor I had cancer in my Left breast in 2000 at 26 years old after a mastectomy and a year of chemo ive been fine until today. About 6 months ago I had my mammogram and the pain didn't go away so in August I felt a hard spot went to the cancer Dr, had a CT was told it was a folded implant. So I went to my plastic surgeon he said capsular tissue and it would get better on it own in a few months. Well it got worse swollen, red, and very painful. Went to my PCP got antibiotics and went back to my plastic surgeon he said same diagnosis but sent me for a MRI. MRI doctor called me and wanted to see me right away. So after a mamo, ultrasound, biopsy last week I got the call today. Cancer is back in right breast and lymph node. I have an appt. tomorrow to find out what stage. in the mean time I am in pain swollen and SO MAD! Why was this missed in Aug UGH! I feel helpless and confused!

frugalgirl, So so sorry. Can I ask, your original cancer was in the left breast, you had a mastectomy in the left side only? you had an implant and thats where you felt the lumps, and the mri showed cancer on the right? Im sorry if I didnt understand right and I so want to get it right. Hugs to you

Frugalgirl I am so sorry that this has happened to you again after 15 years. Breast cancer sucks..I too had a 2nd bc diagnosed (new primary) in same breast after 8 years.

Hope you get a treatment plan soon and begin kicking cancer to the curb once again!

Meadow yes i had cancer in 2000 at 26 in my left breast i had a mastectomy of left only then reconstruction of both breasts 5 years later. It was never suggested to me to have both breasts removed but i wish that would have been the case. yes after a CT and several Dr visits i went for a MRI and that is were the saw something but it wasn't confirmed until the biopsies. My first appt at Karmanos with the oncologist is tues. it will be a long week of tests, port put in before chemo.

Thank you everyone for the support and any advice is welcomed.

Frugalgirl: I wish this hadn't happened to you. I know you are angry about the doctor not getting it right in August even with the CT scan. But six months was not that long ago - please remember that- and now you know so you can get what you need. There is a book, "Beating Cancer with Nutrition..." yeah its a weird title but it talks about supplements and if you "google" the supplements you will find that they help during treatment. I take a turmeric called, "Tumeric Force," and I have been taking it since my 8/13 dx. A friend who just had a double - M is all for this supplement. There are some very good kinds of Tumeric (a.k.a.curcumin) available. I get mine on line. Another good supplement is quercetin, and it is not expensive at all. Both of these supplements you get in foods- you might even have the curcumin spice in your kitchen. Quercitin is very helpful for inflammation. Inflammation can occur when the chemo busts up the cancer cells, and this results in tissue inflammation, according to the Beating Cancer book.

Here is one of the links about recent study on tumeric; http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/turmeric-extract-strikes-root-cause-cancer-malignancy

Your age is in your favor. I am pulling for you in this.

I am so sory also. I've just been dx with a recurrence 11/2 years after completing treatment. I just want to make sure you run all supplements past your MO. I thought I would be helping by taking anti oxidants while on chemo and I was told that I had to stop as it was counter productive to chemo. Just check to be safe. You will beat this, I keep saying my first journey was for practice...now I have it down pat and will kick cancers *#€#!

My oncologist said only vitamins that are water soluble.  He said vitamins and supplements have been seen to protect the cancer cell and not let chemo take care of it.  I did not want that so the only thing I take is a calcium tablet which I approved because I am post menopause.

Yes my oncologist said to wait till after chemo to take antioxident boosters, as they could strengthen all cells including cancer cells. but you can start them after chemo. Like Slv said, just run stuff past the Onc. Every little bit helps us fight stronger.
