What antibiotic did your doctor prescribe for after surgery?

I have a breast infection that developed 3 weeks after surgery. The surgeon (who is far from where I live) prescribed CiPro over the phone. I went to the local medical oncologist today and she said that CiPro is the wrong medicine for breast infections and she prescribed me Levofloxacin to switch to. Who do I believe?

Just wondering what medicine you were given for breast infection or to prevent breast infection after surgery. Thanks!

What I was given to take after my surgery was keflex, which i believe is the standard after surgery abx. When I develloped cellulitis and ended up in the hospital for almost a week, I was on IV vancomyacin and something that started w/ an M (already forgot the name!).

Be careful of the levofloxacin (levaquin). it can cause tendon rupture. If you start haaving any soreness/pain, redness near a tendon, call the doc!

I was prescribed Keflex as well. Don't know if they prescribe something different if you actually get an infection though.

Keflex for me which was hard on my intestines but it kept the infections away and I had 6 surgeries in 1 year.

I  received Levaquin for the BMX - I was wildly allergic - hives everywhere.  I have also been prescribed Bactrim and Cipro.  I get an antibiotic every time I have surgery.  I do not have a history of infection - despite the crazy list of surgery you see in my sig line - a lot of them are due to skin healing issues from necrosis.

Thanks for telling me, everyone! I've switched from CiPro to Levaquin but not sure there is much difference between the two. Strange! Every doctor has a different opinion.

I have a very well informed pharmacist who I trust. I don't take antibiotics unless I absolutely have to but did take keflex for breast infection years ago.

I took cipro for diverticulitis caused by chemo and I am pretty sure that caused my tinnitus.

After surgery I was put on Doxycycline. At the sixth or seventh week I developed cellulitis in the left Breast and was hospitalized and given Vancomycin and then sent home with a PICC line and vancomycin for two weeks. Did you run a fever

I was not given any antibiotic after UMX. Even when sedoma developed. Did not have any issues. In today's world of 'super viruses' because of the over use of antibiotics so often, I use other options for handling a potentially possible infection. I have not had any infection since my DX. I deal with LE with having had many scrapes/cuts/punctures/etc. and have had no issues bit I do use H2O2 on any. Would I use antibiotics - yes but only when other options have not worked.

We are all so different - what is 'right'/needed for one is not always the same.

I wasn't given any antibiotics post BMX. I do believe I received an IV antibiotic just before the surgery started.

Keflex post BMX, no infection. Having exchange surgery 3/5, probably get Keflex again.

Keflex for me too after surgery. They did prescribe before as well but only because of a skin breakout and not really an infection.
