8 days ago I got the call we have all dreaded......breast cancer.

Multifocal Invasive ductal carcinoma Grade 2, 5 masses largest measures 2.5 cm.

Monday morning I meet with the surgeon. I hope to find out results of HER2, ER+/-, PR+/-

Not sure what to ask besides the obvious.

Husband is scared out of his mind. I feel that I am in a good place mentally so far.

Hard call to receive.  You'll find yourself overwhelmed with information and questions when you meet with the surgeon.  Don't hesitate to ask questions and take written notes. I was fortunate that where I had my surgery they provided me an information notebook at that first meeting which I could read later at home and a nurse consultant to call for any followup questions.  I hope your husband will be present and can ask his own questions and be reassured there is something to be done and steps to take--sometimes it takes a plan to be reassured.  Ask about options for surgery, whether or not you will need chemo and/or radiation.  Read postings on this discussion board, but remember each person's diagnosis, options, and outcomes are going to be different.  Continue to stay in that good place mentally, take each appointment, surgery, and treatment as one step closer to returned good health.  Best wishes and God bless.

wilkigirl, well I am so sorry that you got the call too, we all have gotten it at one time or another. But you are in the right place here. You will have all the love and support to get you through this.

Take a breath, and relax. It is nothing until it is something, and our heads always take us to the dark side first. Take notes or record the appointment with the surgeon. Or take your husband with you. That extra support and ears will be a great help to you. Get the facts they have, and see what the surgeon recommends for the next steps. Once you know what you are dealing with, and what has to happen to fix it you will feel so much better. Please remember, we are always afraid of the unknown. A positive attitude will help you through.

Good Luck, I hope all goes well.

Hi wilkigir, and welcome to our community. We're so sorry for what brings you here, it's such a scary time, but we're so glad you've found us.

Besides the support and encouragement you'll find here in the boards, there is a special article in the main Breastcancer.org site designed for those just diagnosed. It's called Breast Cancer 101, and hopefully will help you sort through all of the information on our site to find what is more relevant to you right now like understanding your diagnosis, questions to ask your doctor, etc.

We hope this helps. Let us know how you're doing.

Thank you everybody. I definitely feel the love and support on this board. I've been looking at it the past week and finally decided it was time to join. Everybody just seems so strong and positive, which I know is the secret of surviving this whole ordeal. I am taking it one day at a time but, as you all know, it is so hard to to sit and wait to find out what exactly is going on and how we are going to attack it. I just want to know!!!
