Starting Chemo February 2015

Chloesmom, I had a rash on my neck and shoulders. It was pretty itchy, so I called and was seen. They gave me a steroid, which wiped it out.
Cher22, I went to work the day after my port placement. I was pretty tired the day of the procedure, but felt fine after that. I hope it goes well for you too.
I am day on day 12 and feeling much better. My appetite is better and the aches are gone. I am glad to get a week or so of feeling good before my next infusion on Feb.18. So far, no sign of my hair falling out, but I am afraid my days are numbered. It is weird to think it will just start falling out soon. Still haven't bought a wig, and am having a hard time deciding if I really want one. I might just wear hats, scarves, and turbans. We shall see how I feel once it is actually gone.
Ewt717, how are you feeling? I hope better now that you are farther out from infusion day.
Hope everyone is doing well. So far I feel like this is not an easy road, but definitely doable. We shall see how the next round goes.

I buzzed hair the day after first chemo as de said it sometimes hurts falling out if there is any length to it. Ordered a wig, but mostly expect to wear hats. Got the conductor hat from TLC and another knot one on the same page with a brim - very soft! It's 4 days from 1st chemo and I'm conflicted about how much to push myself to move. Just want to vegetate in the recliner where a week ago was riding exercise bike 30 mon they say don't get deconditioned but rest when you need to. Very confusing
Desist in helped the rash. Added probiotics ton yogurt today too. Hanging in there
-
Hi Chloesmom, keep riding the bike, you will have down days when the recliner looks good! Exercise is a good thing. The less we do, the more we do less.
-
Cher22, I had port placement and had no problems other than a little tenderness and tightness for a week or so. In the beginning I was very aware of it and now I forget it is there.
Chloesmom, I got an itchy, raised-bump rash on the back of my neck with Round 1. I treated it with hydrocortisone and it helped. With Round 2 I got a little itchiness in the same area but started the hydrocortisone right away and it was very mild this time. Both times I also got a rash on my hand which my co-worker told me looked like...yep, diaper rash!
Does everyone feel as relieved as I do when you find someone else with the same symptoms? If it weren't for this site I would probably be calling my MO every other day!
-
hi all, I joined the group that said starting chemo in January. I wanted to join this one too if that's okay Bc my chemo actually starts 2/19. I am really glad to read all the suggestions on these forums!
-
Hi Lilone650, I have joined both groups as well. I agree there are many good suggestions and don't want to miss any information! Hope you have a wonderful day.
-
Hi cubbieblue, you will find a lot of answers here to all of your questions. I hope you manage chemo well, and move on.
-
Day 7: It seems I have matching rashes forming on the inside of my upper arms, near where my arm could possibly come into contact with my deodorant. At first, I thought there was just a minor scratch on the right arm. Realized this morning that it's on both arms in the same place. Not itching at the moment, but does appear to be spreading or getting larger. Anyone else
-
Hi Sugar Cakes, I would call the MO, or the nurses if you can today. Both arms and spreading ? You could also look up the SE of your drugs on chemocare.com. I had all the unusual SE's, but I would get it checked out.
-
Tried to walk the dog 4 blocks today. Now need a nap. Good thing I had a hiking pole as felt weak in the knees! This is a far cry from 30 min of cardio intervals last Sunday. Thanks heaven for Desitin. Might see if I can get an Rx for the butt rash tomorrow. It's on fire. Feel sorry for babies.
-
hi Chloesmom,
Even short walks are helpful. Good idea on the walking stick. My knees are funny too, but it gets better with some exercise. I use baby wipes when needed, cooling comfort. Hope you feel better!
-
I started chemo on Jan 30th and had my second one a few days ago (every Friday) since I'm on Taxol. Just wanted to say hello! -
hi ladies,
I am from the August 2014 chemo group. I would love to donate some head scarves and hats. My hair is coming back, and yours shall too!
Anyone interested please pm me your address.

Hi cubbieblue from another Chicagoan,
Springlike weather this weekend was great after the big snow last week. Sounds like you're doing well. Good for you! -
How is everyone doing on the hair front? Feeling anything? At times, my scalp feels tingly but what's left after my cut hasn't starting falling yet.
-
Hi Rossileo18,
Well our little spring thaw certainly was short-lived wasn't it? My hair is now completely gone so I'm experiencing a Chicago winter like never before! The wind seems to get to my scalp no matter what I'm using as a head covering. And I'm sorry to see you're having to go through this a second time.
SugarCakes, I actually began chemo in January, but I can tell you I began losing my hair on Day 12 of Round 1 and 21 days later it was completely gone. I did have a little tingling before it started coming out several strands at a time.
Have a great night ladies!
-
Cubbieblue,
It could be worse. We could be in Boston! you never realize how much your hair keeps your head warm until you lose it. Last time I started in July, but the hair didn't start to come back until December. -
had my first treatment 2/5. Have felt like crap since. I constantly feel drunk. I hate that feeling which is why I never drink! Anyone know when I should start feeling normal again?
-
just back from the Y Livestrong program today. We did yoga in chairs and some cardio. I was doing 30 min before chemo but am now able to do 15 min low intensity then pooped.
The rash is better after flushes with a squeeze bottle of warm water and Desitin. Feel like a little kid. Nurse thinks I wasn't drinking enough. They want 64 oz and I'm at more like 48. Head tingles but my buzz is intact. Just tired but as long as I eat light snacks and take Zofran have no more nausea as if yesterday. Did have sternum and back pain last night but kicked it with ibuprofen. Nurse said Neulasta shot can take 6 days to act up and hurt. Thank heaven for Claritan as it wasn't bad like my friend had a few years ago.
8 1/2 days since chemoland adventure began. 4 cycles x 3 weeks = 84 days total. Hey that's 10% DONE!!!!
-
Was feeling drunk the whole first week too. I couldn't watch 1/2 a TV show without sleeping. The meds did it but they also kept the cookies down. I like week 2 better even if I had to go to the Y. With a mask on for Livestrong. that's my only outing as staying away from germs. Funny we don't have the funds to go out to eat but now that I can't due to chemo aid really like to. We always want what we can't have.
-
Hi momof32015,
I'm ahead of you by a day and am on AC for a total of four times every two weeks. This has been really rough, mostlly because of a constantly queasy stmoach in spite of meds. I've been using ondasetron, but next time might try another med that the nurse suggested. It's been almost a week and I'm just beginning feel somewhat normal. Hang in there, You can make it. -
Hi Ladies, for all the chemo side effects, try to drink a lot of water to help flush it out. I drank 5 to 6 bottles a day, and still do. No pop and no caffeine. It helps to take the nausea meds on a regular schedule to keep the yucky feeling away. Jell-o and Popsicles help also, and it counts as a liquid. I snacked a lot, not big meals. Fresh fruit helps, and frozen juice bars may taste good. And a little exercise helps a lot. Just a small walk will help. You can all do this!
-
Thanks for the advice Beachbum,
I am going to start chemo next Monday (AC 4x every 3 weeks) and am wondering what my experience will be like. I will try to drink drink drink. I remember right after surgery when I was taking meds 6 times a day I was drinking what seemed like a lot (of course they all needed to be taken with a 'full glass of water' and was hardly hungry. I tried on wigs today and looked absolutely weird and foreign to myself. I may order one online -- if I am going to look strange I may at least try to do it for less than $100... This weekend I get my haircut, my first in over a decade. and then hats hats hats!!! (I am so done with snow...)
Rosileo I hope your stomach calms down,
Momof32015 that sounds like an awful feeling -- I hope it goes away for you soon.
Anybody else going in soon? Stay warm, feel well all!
-
Damselfly, I had AC on Tuesday morning, and I was fine until Thursday morning. I was down Thursday and Friday and felt better starting on Saturday. It went that way every time so easy to plan for it. Any questions, just shout them out, you will have a lot of help here!
-
hi Ladies, just checking in, I was where you are now exactly one year ago, in the Feb. 2014 thread. I just want to pass on big gentle hugs to all you fabulous ladies starting this part of your journey. There will be difficult days ahead for you, but never beat yourself up for feeling blue ,sick "lazy days" , not exercising like you use to .....or eating lots of various sugery , doughy food. Do what ever it takes to get through this. The list of things to get through chemo , really helped me..... And talking to all the great people on this site. Drinking water , the day before chemo and the next 24 hours, I drank a lot ...and it did help, I had glasses of water all over the house. I look back now a year later and think holy crap...did I go through all that. I still have minor side effects, my hair has grown back....I had really short pixie hair by the time summer came...was getting tired of my wig by then too. As I read all your stories for February chemo starting, brings tears to me. I send so much love to everyone starting out in the crazy chemo ride, sending also the strength to get through all of it.....and you will get through it!!!
((((Big gentle hugs to all ))))
-
Gardengirl66, I want to send a very big hug, and a huge Thank You! We all fight the battles, and I hope to walk beside you one day......
-
Today, day 8 of Cycle 1, I have felt pretty close to normal and haven't taken any meds for pain or nausea. I realized what I thought was a rash on my forearm is a rash or bruise from the IV. It's what I assume drug users that "shoot up" have on their arms??? Anyone else?
Gardengirl, thank you! It helps to imagine myself where you are today, a year from now
I keep hearing the same about drinking water. I have done ok, but I should and will do better.
My sister dragged me to the gym today and I was on the treadmill for 40 minutes. It felt good! I need to at least walk, preferably outside in fresh air, every day.
Spring can't get here fast enough.
I love reading the boards and this thread especially. Stating to prefer it over talking to the BF. Uh-oh...
-
Hello, first post. I'm still loopy from port placement and first treatment today. I have been reading this board since 12/22 and wanted to join in once I had PET results and knew a definite plan. What a wild ride! I feel pretty mentally out of it as well as tired but can't sleep. I was not able to use a metal fork for dinner tonight (already?) but kept it all down. I am having chemo first and then surgery.
-
Welcome Hope! Everyone here has already been on the same wild ride! I had AC together, so just ask if you have any questions. It will help to drink alot of water, I drink 4 to 5 bottles a day especially on chemo. Try using plastic forks and spoons, and some food will be better cold or warm, but not so hot. Jell-o, popsicles, and fruit bars are easy snacks if you don't feel well. Fresh fruit and frozen grapes can help also. A big thing for most us was constipation on chemo and pain meds. I used Sennokot-S the night before chemo, and for the next several days as needed. But there are a lot of helpful hints to get you through this. You got this! If you need help, just ask!
