MD Anderson surgical pathologist

Two weeks ago-diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. Pretty scared. Terror is a more adequate word. On Medicare so I can go anywhere that accepts assignment. Seriously considering M.D. Anderson. But which surgical oncologist should I ask to see? They all have excellent training I am sure but I

hesitate not asking for a specific surgical oncologist...it would seem to me that to ask for a specific doctor would indicate that you researched the various physicians and decided to request a certain physician based on your research. So this is part of my research.

Does anyone have any input as to which doctor to request? Perhaps I won't have a choice and they just assign you? I really don't know. Any help is so appreciated.

    I don't have a doctor recommendation at that facility but at the place I go, the doctors meet as a group each week to discuss all the new cases which I think it is good. Maybe it won't matter quite as much if they do something like that in case you are not able to get a specific name. Hopefully someone can get you a name. I also asked every medical professional I knew and they all kept saying the same guy. Do you know any medical people you can ask?

    floridagal- The way it works at MDA is you first see a Breast Oncologist (MO), then they place you with a surgical oncologist (surgeon) and radiation oncologist (RO). When you first meet with your MO, you can absolutely tell them you prefer specific doctors from there (I LOVE my surgeons- Abigail Caudle is surgeon and Jesse Selber is plastic surgeon- they're incredible). I would be happy to share my MO with you, as I love the guy, but I tried to refer him to someone the other day, and he's not accepting new patients at the moment. :( Call MDA and ask for the Breast Center and tell them you want to make an appt with an MO, then go from there. There are 80 Breast Oncologists at MDA (yes 80... if that doesn't tell you too many women have breast cancer, I don't know what will), and they're all very busy. The good news is no matter who you get, they do confer with each other, and if you end up with a younger MO, it's honestly kind of a good thing, because they must share every treatment plan with a more seasoned team (so you have more more drs on your case). Like most breast centers, it's tough to get in quickly, BUT once you're in, things move pretty fast, and they're such an efficient, well-oiled machine, being a patient there is very easy.
