Alaska Deb--I grew up with that rule! My mother and stepfather bought bunches of baby chicks, ducks and geese intending to raise them for eggs and meat. lol-- I went on a naming spree--Loud-mouth Lucy, Wet foot charley, Roost, babes, Gus, Daisy were my favorite ones.

I adopted my dog 'Chuck' from a rescue group here in Illinois, they rescued him from a kill shelter in Iowa.
    I found him on www.petfinder.com

This was his picture picture on petfinder, now how could you not fall in love with a face like that?

Wow, he looks like my dog. Same markings over the eyes and the same ear shape and the tan marks at the top of the front legs.

OH MY GOD. He is beautiful.

Rescues are the best. Both of mine are. One from a puppy mill and the other from the pound

I always say "next time I'm getting a puppy". Then next time comes (been two next times so far) and I just can't do it. All I can think about is EVERYONE wants the puppy....NO ONE wants the adult dog down at the SPCA. So I get the adult dog...I'm a sucker for the behaviourally-challenged ones too LOL.

    Here are my two...

(actualy I lied, the one in the middle I did get as a pup...my son LOL).

Oh my! What great pictures! I am truelly an animal lover. We have 2 cats and 1 dog. Male cat is Wesley, Female cat is Leslie. Got them both from a no kill shelter. Wesley is a black and white tuxedo. Leslie is white with patches of orange and grey.

Ah then there is my dog. "Mister" he is half black lab, half border collie and all monster. In fact sometime I will call him monster and he comes lol!! He is the baby in the house. He thinks he is a big cat. The cats think he is a big cat. And they all rule this household.

I always brought in strays from when I was a little girl. And when the animals get unruly? My husband says and who brought you home!!

And believe it or not, all 5 of us sleep together. Comfort and food! My animals are so spoiled.

As I was cruising thru the board, my Domestic LH Black female feline (I call her Sophie) was right next to me, lovin' and purrin', I just looked and her and said Thank You.

I was always a dog person, but I saved her from a shelter about 6 yr ago. It was close to Halloween and they couldn't accept any black cats, I never had one before, but wouldn't be without now.

lol shel - she's a primadonna too. She's spayed and an indoor cat, so the only action she gets is thru the window screens when the neighbor boys some calling- she doesn't like any other cats coming to visit at her house.
Although when I rescued her she was only 7 mos old and already a momma, poor thing. She was abused by previous owner, cut whiskers and all. Now she is SPOILED!

LOL Thanks My dogs are the best. Well, maybe not the best..... ok, maybe they are the worst.
Woke up this morning to find that Chewie (the rottie) had eaten all of my candies. This is just the last in a LONG line of things he has eaten.
Note to self. Never adopt a dog called "Chewie" There is a reason he is called that.

I had a chocolate Lab named Sadie. She actually had a carreer change as she was a Leader Dog for the Blind. Figured out she must have eaten all the blind person's food, so she changed her career to our pet. She used to punish herself. She knew she should not get in the garbage, so after she got into it, she went into the laundry room for her time out.
she was the sweetest dog in the world. God rest her soul.

Gus and Mattie love to disembowel stuffed animals, but CANDLES? Nah, they never did THAT! LOL Makes ya wonder - what's the fascination?! I trust Chewie is still young? Mine pretty much outgrew the I-have-to-eat-and-destroy-everything stage at about 4-5 yrs old. Although, stuffed animals still excite them.
