edited February 2015 in Waiting for Test Results

I know I'm not the first one to say that I'm scared to death of what my results may be or that the waiting is ridiculously hard. I already had to wait 2 weeks for my mammo/us after my doc felt a lump and bad swollen lymph nodes. They wanted to try to track down a previous mammogram from 4 years ago but were still unable to locate records. Then 4 more days for the biopsy. NOW I have to wait until the middle of next week for my biopsy results. I'm going nuts here! My mammo was given a Bi-rad of 4b and my axillary lymph nodes are so swollen that it feels weird to put my arm all the way down when I wake up in the morning. I feel so hopeless and worried that I won't be able to take care if my kids (single mom of 4!) if this turns out to be cancer. I'm so glad my doctor gave me a prescription for Xanax today but now I just feel loopy and tired at the same time.

The good news is that the biopsy came back negative so no breast cancer. However, I'm right back where I started almost a month ago! I originally saw my doctor for a large lump in my armpit, not my breast- they just happened to find the lump at my mammo. While I'm relieved that it's not breast cancer (and surprised quite honestly), I still have a lump in my armpit that almost makes it awkward to put my arm down. The next step is to see a general surgeon I guess but now she cannot get me in for almost another month! And that's just the consult! How long is figuring wth this is going to take? Sorry, I'm just so frustrated and feeling completely helpless. Thank you for the support here, I really appreciate it. To all of you who are fighting or have fought and won, I wish you all the best!

Thank you for your well wishes. I am SO very, very happy that your biopsy was negative. Let's hope you never have to face anything like this again.

However, that business of having to wait almost another month just for a consult is totally for the birds. I hope there are other options (maybe your PCP can pull some strings or do something?) If nothing else, if you haven't already done so, call and tell them that you will take any cancellation - and then call back regularly and check for said cancellation. Sometimes you really have to make a pest of yourself to get what you need.

I hope you can see the surgeon soon and I hope it's nothing dire. In the meantime, take good care of yourself. Good luck.

I am glad your biopsy came out ok! That sucks that you have to wait another month for the other one. Is there anyone else that can do it?

I'm right here with you. I'm glad you have no cancer in your breast but OMG having to wait a month for the armpit. How awful and terrifying for you. I know how you feel. I'm waiting too. The waiting is alost unbearable. I'm glad were not alone in this scary journey.

absadieefg, have you done ultrasound of the lump in your armpit yet? The ultrasound may give you some idea if it is lymph node, a dermal process/sebaceous cyst, an abscess, a lipoma etc. And I suppose your breast surgeon can or has done that for you. It will give you some information before you see the surgeon, and very likely the surgeon will order it too if not done yet. If it is a lymph node, which we're mostly concerned about, the ultrasound will give some idea about whether it looks benign or atypical.
