Hi :)

I have 3 lumps in my right breast. I had a mammogram and ultrasound done in mid January. The radiologist saw nothing on the mammogram and came in and did the ultrasound himself and found nothing even though he could feel the lumps. I stopped breastfeeding in Oct 2014 due to multiple episodes of mastitis and clogged ducts. The radiologist said maybe it's scar tissue?? I am so confused.  How are lumps palpable but not detected in 2 tests? Does anyone have any advice or a similar situation? I am in the process of a referal to a breast surgeon for hopefully a biopsy. The lumps are smooth, movable, kind of a soft rubbery texture. Sorry for the novel :)

Hi Starr, I am so sorry you are going thru this. I am not an expert, but I can tell you that for all the times we are told as women we need mammograms, often they are not the best diagnostic tool. Yes, many cancers are caught using mammogram, mine was not. I am more surprised nothing showed up on ultrasound, but it sounds like your doctor is staying right on top of things referring you to the breast surgeon. The waiting is so hard! Please resist the temptation to mash around and feel the lumps all the time, you will just make yourself sore. I am so hoping you get good news from the breast surgeon. If not, do not despair! We here on BCO are living proof there is life after a cancer diagnosis. keep us posted on what you learn, and try not to worry in the meantime. hugs to you.

Hi, Your radiologist is really doing his best to provide quality care. That is great news. I agree with meadows in that we are not experts and there could be a ton of reasons why it is not showing up. I had a mammo one month and the next month I had a lump the size of a golf ball. I was so ticked! It really wasn't there when my bs went back to look at the pictures so it happens. I love the recommendation to go to a breasy health specialist. That is the best advice. You must have so many questions right now and a bs can help answer those questions. Yes, and hands off the lumps at this point. My son used to hit me with a nerf gun when he caught me touching them. Please let us know how it goes. I am hoping that everything is benign.

Thanks for the replies ladies. It definitely helps to hear from you :) Today I scheduled an appointment for Feb 17th to consult with a breast surgeon. My doctor and gyno both were not concerned with my lumps since the tests were both negative so I had to push for a referral. I just can't live with not knowing what's in my breast. Hopefully I can somehow find peace until then.
