WndrWoman, I am just rooting for a great game, and the food of course! I don't have a team since I live near Browns Town. Maybe one day?

Since my team already lost the Super Bowl, it's all about the food, commercials and my kids.

well, am making chicken wings-asian and standard, baked beans, smashed taters for big game. Feelin better today, but still zippo energy. Rootin for underdawg seahawks, but do not really care. Not a sports fan! Like nascar though, der der der.

My DH has expressed that he is behind me and to try and carry on with rads. For him, I can, even if it hurts. Hoping it does not go to the extreme for me but who knows.

Anyone working thru rads? Part time or full

I am 4 weeks into radiation therapy and already have a bad rash and burn. I went to my dermatologist last week because I thought I was allergic to something but it turned out to be the radiation therapy. Have 3 weeks to go. I had a scare with my right breast and had to have a biopsy on that breast but it was benign. I only had the left breast out but now wishing I could have had both out. I have a consultation with my breast surgeon on Wednesday about having the other breast out. I am sick of biopsy's for the last 10 years. I feel that it would give me a better chance. Does anyone know how long you have to wait after radiation to have surgery on the other breast. If I can have it out then I will have the expanders put in and have my weekly fill ups. Then about 3 months after the other breast heals from the radiation will have reconstruction on both. Anyone else out there experienced this?

Bippy, I worked everyday thru rads.  I did them on my lunch hour.  But, I would come home and sit and watch my husband cook dinner.  Some days were better than others.

It won't be long now, Daytona Feb. 22.  YAY!!!! Go Edwards!!!!

I'm in rads; two more treatments to go.

We are having hot meatballs and wieners, layered bean dip and salad. Not sure what else!

Poppy, that sounds delicious.  My DIL is sick so we didn't get to go over there.  Instead, my DH and I are going to  have roast and mashed potatoes and gravy.  Maybe even a cookie for desert.  Enjoy the game!!

Nomatterwhat I think KC beat both teams during the season so be proud.

My husband has made chicken wings and we just warmed up with salsa and guacamole. Drinking a little Ginger Beer with no alcohol.

I only had 3 rads so far but my breast is swollen. Did you ladies have a similar response? I read a lot about redness and skin issues but was wondering if swelling was a part of this for you as well. My lumpectomy boob is larger than my healthy one!

Bippy I've been working through rads. I teach art, so I teach my morning high school classes and leave early on the days I have to teach elementary. We have had several snow days so I haven't had to work a full week since I started. School is the one place where everything is normal. I like having that part of my day, makes it easier to stay upbeat. I drive to treatment and then I come home and nap. The drive home during the evening rush is the worst part.

I've been lucky to have minimal side effects thus far. My treated side is swollen and tan. I have bouts of exhaustion, and I just nap.

I am working through rads, timing is working out that I can do it during the lunch hour. My job is very flexible, if I start having problems, I can change things around. I figure that working through rads can't be as bad asworking through chemo.

Has anyone else tried turmeric? It is a natural antinflammatory that I can only find at the food co- op. I found it when my knee was bad and it didn't wreck my stomach. NIH approves it as the real thing. It's a little pricey but worth it to me. Found the Aloe Vera gel there too. Not in the other stores in the frozen north.

mqt64- I'm a BIG fan of circumin/turmeric! My kids and hubby also take it. I've found I can get it on Amazon for cheaper than most stores. Make SURE you get a supplement that also has bioperene OR eat something with pepper when you take it. You need one of those in order to absorb the circumin (which is the anti-inflammatory stuff in turmeric). I found this one recently http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N9J6U0I/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. For the dosage it's a good deal.

Chrissie29, I will have 35 treatments. Good luck tomorrow!

Congratulations to all of you who have finished!

I have a stupid question - what is a boost?

dacre..... I saw your question a bit back about developing a seroma problem. I did have an experience with the fluid build up called seroma. It was after surgery. I had a lumpectomy the end of October. By the time I saw my surgeon for a check up a week later I was quite swollen on the incision side of the breast . The swelling was attributed to seroma, or a fluid building up in the area of surgery. Sometimes your body re-absorbs the fluid and sometimes it needs to be aspirated or drained and sometimes it drains on its own....which is what mine did.

I had not been told to wear a bra after surgery but when the fluid accumulated my surgeon said I should be wearing a bra to prevent fluid buildup/swelling. So I started wearing one at that point.

The second week, hours before my appointment,my stitches which were dissolving and the buildup of fluid suddenly drained which was a bit scary! The remainder of healing time was then spent packing the wound and letting it heal from the inside out. My rads had to be delayed by a number of weeks until the site was healed.

That's a seroma....fluid buildup in the surgery area.

LARock, A boost is supplemental radiation given to the area where the cancer was. Here's a link if you want to read more about it.

dacre, my seroma presented with swelling and pain from breast to arm pit. It made sloshing sounds, quite disturbing until I found out what it was. Fluid was absorbed in a few weeks.

I learned the hard way; 1) wear a bra after surgery and 2) don't over do (t-rex arms).

I loved the stretchy, breathable Dale post-surgical bras during radiation, but as I posted earlier, they're ridiculously expensive. I have 3 or 4 XL, plus one XXL, if anyone wants them. They've been laundered and are in perfect condition. They're considered "disposable" but are actually easily delicate machine washed or hand washed and air-dried. Please PM your info to me and I'll mail them to you.

To quiggy and Fionascotti: Thanks for the info. Had no clue what it was, figured I didn't have it, but wasn't sure if I should be on the look out!!!

I agree with texas94 in regards to curcumin/turmeric.  I have read how it is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and some consider it to be a natural cancer treatment.  There have been various studies in regards to whether it can prevent/treat cancer. There is no research evidence yet that I know of, but some early trials showed potential.  So I take it regularly now, as it might help, and I have seen nothing negative on it.  Per the attached link, it has been used in Aurvedic medicine for thousands of years.  (Can't vouch for all the info in the article though.)

I have just 2 treatments left now. I'm very thankful I have a late day rads appointment today, as we got about 15 to 20 cm of snow last night and it is still snowing, so the roads and commuter trains are all slow.  Hopefully travelling conditions will be better by mid afternoon. I have almost a one hour drive in good conditions to get to Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.

Hi ladies! I posted some questions a couple of days ago, but it ended up at the bottom of a page, so I don't think anyone saw it. This is such a great group of women I know no one ignored me intentionally! :)

Anyway, I've attached a snapshot of the question part of my entry. Thanks!

Actually, I think most of us have had lumpectomies. Lumpectomies and radiation go together almost always. Radiation is sometimes used after a mastectomy, but not nearly as often. Because we still have both breasts, usually one is sore and they are of different sizes at this point due to our treatments, problems with bras are pretty much the norm and inescapable. If I'd had a BMX I definitely wouldn't bother with a bra!

Texas94 I did respond about the bras but probably not relevant to you as I had a lumpectomy. Answers will come.

So irritated today. Snow but not that much with a little freezing rain. No call from center. Answering service had no word on closing. So we went and one staff person was there and said they are closed. Poor communication! The market, bank, pharmacy, other stores are all open plus several medical offices, but my center where people need daily treatment is CLOSED. I have just 3 boosts left and some tears did come.

Good morning, I had a mastectomy and I am a little nervous about the rads since the breast is gone. I have 28 with 5 boosts. They use a bolus every other day to act like skin, but there isn't much left. I just hope the lung and ribs survive the rads. Today is #6, so a long way to go yet. I'll keep you posted.

labelle I had 3 lumpectomies and then a bilateral mastectomy and then another lumpectomy before I had rads. Different protocols in different places, I guess.
