Hi, friends, I wear a sleeve when I travel. I have what I would describe as Stage 0 lymphedema-no swelling, but had cording during treatment and ache when I overdo things. I am reconsidering a travel plan in which I would fly RT to a location 13 hours away with two days on the ground. Based on what little we all know about lymphedema, do you think based on experience such a short time between flights put me at greater risk? I thank you so much.

    Hi, L,

Two days is enough time for your lymph system to adjust to the changes. But the long flight (13 hours) is, of course, a risk. You mention a sleeve--you need a well-fitting glove or gauntlet as well. Here's why:

Also, remember to exercise your arms frequently (ignore the strange looks from fellow passengers--you're never going to see them again anyway!) and to stay REALLY WELL hydrated.

    Happy travels!

You are so kind to reply, as always! This is great information. I do wear a glove--I should have been more precise. I have a good PT, it's just that they are like most: maybe you need the sleeve, maybe you don't, we don't know about flying...use your judgement. My "judgement" is here, on bc.org!
