Congratulations Lago on approaching your 5 years I am on the last leg of treatment and life is starting to feel normal again. I feel and look well. I am just so grateful for every day of feeling healthy and hope it stays that way. Five years seems ages away but I will be coming up to my first cancer anniversary in April. Thanks everyone for the positive, uplifting stories, they really do make a difference

Flautalee what a story. I think I'm one of the few people who knew that even with a BMX you can get breast cancer again but very rare. They can't get all the breast tissue but a good breast surgeon will get more than a general surgeon. I know my breast surgeon had a reputation of getting more tissue. I thought it was as high as 2%.

I do have a friend that got a new breast cancer after a BMX. She got mets from it but she's still surviving. She was diagnosed the same time as me.

I discovered my lump 5 yrs ago (end of Jan., 2010). Had bilateral mastectomy and chemo. No recurrance to date. However, a little over a year ago I was diagnosed with lung cancer, early stage. I had the right upper lobe of my lung removed. Did't need chemo. I had my one year CT scan on in December, which was negative for any sign of recurrance. I get a CT every 6 months. I have to moniter a lot of things, but so far so good.

I will be 7years out on July 9th. I am sad, I think I need some support. Apart from that and the things we live with. I am here and full of love and encouragement for you all. xx

Celebrated my 6 year on Feb. 6th. I try to appreciate each and every day. Cheers!

8 years ago I was getting ready to go into surgery and scared out of my mind. Here I am today; alive, well, and very, very grateful!!!!

badger - checking in from five years out with love & encouragement for the newbies.  Timeline as follows.

2009: Oct - mammo, Nov - stereotactic biopsy, Dec - surgical biopsy & diagnosis.  Joined BCO community. 

2010: Feb - bilateral mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy, Mar-Jun - chemo Taxotere & Cytoxan, 6 rounds.

2015: will finish up five year stint on tamoxifen and start anastrozole (generic Arimidex).  I would do five more years of tamox as side effects have not been too bad but I'm post-meno so not a candidate.  I'm NED which means there's no evidence of disease.

I see my onc every six months and do bloodwork once a year.  I don't get any scans although I did have a baseline bone density test last month.  Will get another in two years.

Over the past five years, I have cried and laughed, lost body parts and gained friends, gone from being scared 24/7 to accepting life in a world fraught with risk, from natural disasters and random acts of human violence to super-bugs and cancer.  Just do the best you can and know that life can still be sweet.  ((hugs))
