I'm 46 years old and my mammogram found a new mass that was suspicios so they did a magnified mammo and then US. The US tech went to grab the radiologist and show her the screen. I still wasn't worried...until the radiologist stated that my mass had all the characteristics of malignancy and was confident that it was cancer. I asked why she thought that and she showed me irregular borders and angular margins, posterior shadowing, internal vascular, taller than wider and hypoechoic. They made an office visit to give me resukts. The day before the resukts appt they called and told me it was benign and a fibroadenoma and told me to go back to regular yearly mammograms. Grant the benign results are a relief but something doesn't feel right. I called the office and asked nurse to help me understand and she said the radiologist that received pathology said that the BIRAD was too high. So I'm confused and still nervous it's being missed or confused. Also when they do a core needle does the needle go thru the mass and out the other side when collecting samples?

HI there ., I am sorry you are going through this. I agree with Kayb, could you get a second opinion? It also seems from your note they did not do a biopsy? Can you request one? Its seems that or a breast MRI could help clarify what they see on mammo and US?  Good luck and keep us posted.

I had an ultrasound core biopsy and it came back as benign, but my radiologist still didn't feel right about it, so she sent me for an MRI and Mri biopsy. That biopsy ended up showing atypical cells in the same spot. The radiologist said that the Mri can get a more precise area. If you feel uncomfortable, definitely get a 2nd opinion for some piece of mind

I did a core need biopsy and that is the report that doesn't seem to match the radiologist telling it was definitely not a fibroadenoma for multiple reason and the biopsy report says: fibroadenoma with hyper cellular stroma, increased numbers of crowded and bland fusifor/spindle cells and myofibroblastic cells which are separated by thicken bundles of wavy keloid like collagen.

I have an appt with MD anderson to get a second opinion
