Just chiming in to share my none scientific personal experience that neither the mammograms nor 1 diagnostic ultrasound were helpful in my screening process (dense breast issues I guess). Once I found the lump myself, they were able to confirm cancer through a core biopsy. Just found a new lump on my left breast (day of my second chemo cycle) this past Tuesday. I am right now trying to contact my cancer treatment center nurse to see what my next step is with that! I think it could be ductal ectasia but would like them to help me get to the bottom of it. I feel like the mammogram I had in August 2014 pushed the DCIS through the wall of my duct as it was following that test I felt a burning stabbing pain radiating from the right breast. A week or so after that pain onset, I felt the lump. Once they did the core biopsy, I began to feel growing pain radiating from the biopsy site up my neck and to my armpit. This continued until the day of my surgery. I realize that could just be my nerves but when they found micro metasteses in 2 of my lymph nodes, I truly wondered.

I think we could probably all agree that ALL breast screening methods, mammogram, ultrasound & MRI are severely limited, miss too much and/or are too nonspecific and that because of that way too many women have to have biopsies. We need much better screening period.
