    Renn,

I am so sorry to read this.  That sucks.

I was certain I'd lose my TE during rads, and what do you know?  Two holes opened up on the incision line, but miraculously..they closed...I can't believe it.  My last rad is tomorrow and it's still closed..keeping my fingers crossed.

You may want to ask if they used Alloderm.  I didn't know they used it during my MX, and I found out (after it took 8 looooong months to heal) that it was the Alloderm...it wasn't meshing with my skin the way it's supposed too.

It finally did, but what a PITA.

I agree 100% about the protein and sleeping.  In fact, I upped my daily caloric intake during rads after the two holes opened to 2000-2200 a day.  I haven't gained any weight so I guess I need it....and I really think that helped me heal.

    Hugs sister.

    I'm so sorry.

Hi TonLee...so glad to hear your incision is holding and healing! Yeah!

Yes my PS used Alloderm. My PS said the AlloDerm was incorporated nicely when he re-sutured me in late March in the OR. It's certainly possible something happened in the interim. PS also said my sling may need to also be replaced. That will happen in the fall, when we revisit putting in a new TE.

Yes, PITA indeed! Stay well, g-friend!

I had my mastectomy in august, and just finished 25 bouts of radiation therapy ending December 29th. A week after the radiation finished I woke up soaking wet. Apparently I had some fluid built up from cancer treatment which weakened my incision. The pressure from the fluid burst the incision open and I now have a deep cavity which has to be packed every day and covered with multiple absorbent bandages to stop the fluid. The worst part about this is that the fluid has a foul smell to it and the bandages have to be changed at least twice a day. I am looking forward to the end of this long journey. I will try to increase my protein intake and see if that speeds up my recovery .Frustrated and waiting for life to get back to normal after nearly a year of dealing with cancer treatments and side effects.

My mother had the surgery 20 years ago yet she is still having issues with the incision site once in a while. Is it normal or not serious? I guess it must not be since it heals. She lives in a place where medical care is not so great. I am hoping that I can have some info for her. Thanks so much!

Dear Ykc, Welcome to the BCO community. We are sorry to hear of your mom's chronic infections. Here are some links to sites on our webpages that may or may not be helpful: short and long term side effects of surgery and Information on Infection. Hope these might prove some use. The MOds

I had reconstruction with mastectomy 5 years ago, had capsulation problems and had it redone 1 month ago today. Without anything unusual having occurred my incision split entirely across my breast leaving the implant open and gaping. I am very fearful of possible infection and who knows what else. My ps said call him at office on Monday. It is Saturday. I'm scared to death. Is this normal. He said even shower and change the bandage. What should I do
