Beachbum1023, thanks for your update...I needed to hear that as my surgery is coming up and needed to hear something positive as I will be on my own too.shaz101, you got a good support group...that is awesome!
-
Just a update, nurse called with path report, Sentinal showed cancer so they continued and took 39 lymph nodes. I guess the good (if there is any) is that they were all negative. So Shaz101 guess we will travel this road just a little longer I'm with you F**K. So my next step is Monday at 2:30 to see the surgeon and the tumor board meets beforehand and then a oncologist.
I'm learning to enjoy each and every day as we conquer thru all this. Hang with me Shaz101 we will get thru this!

Well my surgery will not be until February 3. My PS appointment was very interesting though. They do nipple reconstruction and tattooing just as a regular part of reconstruction... So I'll be getting nipples too! I'm prob going to still post on here if that's OK. Hugs Amy
-
So happy to report that the shotto the nipple and nuclear shots was a piece of cake! I was nervous, now let's hpoe all goes well tomorrow and my path report is a good one.
-
Amy, of course. I think NurseShark started a February thread, too, for another familiar face.
I'll be popping into that one too!
Bikerbabe, good luck tomorrow! Glad the shots today weren't any big deal. Best wishes for the very best results possible.
-
Surgery is almost here. I go in tomorrow for my lumpectomy and SNB + possible ALND (they do pathology on the SNB while working on the lumpectomy). I am nervous and also anxious to get past this part of my treatment.
Good luck tomorrow Bikerbabe. Glad to hear that your shots all went well.
-
Hi Mary,
How are you feeling today?
It certainly is a roller coaster. Thank you for thinking of me while your head must be reeling. We can do this! Just like loveroflifes image says. Which I saved out so I can print it and remind myself.
Thank you everyone who has and continues to help me in This journey.
Good luck viceroy, I will be thinking of you and hoping for clear nodes.
-
My surgery was yesterday on the 20th of January. I had a mastectomy and sentinel lymph node dissection. It went extremely well and my BS said my lymph nodes appeared clear, but the final decision will be after the pathology (although I believe it's only about a 5% chance the pathology will refute the surgeons call.
I was a zombie at the hospital after the surgery because I was given dilaudid and don't remember my visitors or conversations. During the night I only called for pain medication twice and only took half the dose which did the trick. I found the worst thing was having to pee and having to call the nurses because of all the tubes I was hooked up to.
I was released today (day after surgery) and I feel awesome. I've only had a 1/2 of the pain pill so I'm awake, but pain free. I was helped with a shower before I left the hospital which felt awesome and my surgery scar (no reconstruction) looks really good.
All-in-all, I think, except for the medication the oncologist medical doctor prescribes for my next 10 years, I'm ready to call myself done.
-
BikerBabe and Viceroy--- best wishes tomorrow.
Evilmidget-I'm happy to hear surgery went well and the nodes were not affected. Glad you don't have to deal with TE(s). There are days when I want mine out, but then I have to remind myself it's only temporary. I don't mind prosthesiif I were much older or not married.
-
Glad to hear how well things went Evilmidget!
Thank you everyone for your kind words of encouragement and for your thoughts.
-
Wow evilmidget you are amazing! I'm so happy your surgery went so well. Here's hoping its all uphill from here.
Good luck bikerbabe, please let us know how you go. I'll be thinking of you along with many! Xxx

I am a new member here. Received my Dx of DCIS in December, lumpectomy on Jan 9th found that it was quite a bit more extensive than shown in biopsy, and I opted for a UMx (right) which was done yesterday Jan 21st.
Right now I am restless from pain - have enough meds on board to not be suffering, but sleep isn't coming. This has happened to me with every other surgical px I've had done, so I am not surprised. The next two-three days I'll spend in a wake/nap/wake/nap pattern, until the wonderful day I can fall asleep for a whole bunch of hours. Meanwhile I am up in the wee hours cruising the information posted, what a fine resource is here!
Care and respect to all.

Booinlosangeles, I am so sorry you have had to join us and that you are in pain. This group is fantastic so you are in the right place. I hope your pain settles soon and you get some decent sleep. I'm sending out some healing thoughts sprinkled with sleeping dust xxx
-
Hi BooInLosAngeles, welcome to Breastcancer.org. We're sorry that you have to be here, but very glad you have found this supportive community.
We hope you start feeling better soon and sleep gets better too. If it helps, here are some tips and information about recovering at home after mastectomy, in the article Mastectomy: What to Expect, from our main site.
Let us know how you are doing.
Best,
The Mods

Shaz101, thanks for asking actually feeling pretty good today. I'm hoping to have 1 drain removed Monday the other may have to wait as it is still passing out lots.
To all the newbies, welcome! Great support here as you will find. My best have been the tips and all to help thru this terrible stuff!
Hope everyone is recovering well, and together you will make it!

BikerBabe and Viceroy -- Good luck on your surgery and recovery!
Evilmidget -- Sounds like your surgery went well. Hope you continue to have a good recovery.
Welcome, BooinLosAngeles! Hope you get some rest soon.
Mary, I don't think I'm ever going to get my lymph node drain out, and mine was inserted on 1/12! It keeps passing fluid, passing fluid. Last night, it got clogged by some random piece of tissue, and the fluid ended up on my pajama shirt. Yuck. I called my nurse navigator this morning; she said that when you've had as many lymph nodes out as I had, the drain often has to remain in place much longer. You had 19 more removed than me, so I guess we'll be with our drains for awhile.
-
Good luck to all those who are having surgery today! Thinking and praying for you all! -
Lulu22 just so you know...you made my day with your post!!I'm going to have to use some of that and go find that board! Hope you are doing well!!
-
MrsTee-
Glad to know I could help! I love the threads with dumb things people have said because they're a good outlet for righteous anger. Any time someone says something a bit off I find myself thinking, "Ooh, this is going to make a great post!"
-
Lulu... HaHa 😃

Hi all! Hoping I can jump in here!
I had a mastectomy, node removal (5) on 1/5...healing well according to everyone. :-)My question is this: no real pain, but a lot of uncomfortability/sensitivity - anytime fabric etc brushes my skin on my right side its annoyingly sensitive and over the course of a day it builds in intensity, until the evening I just want to collapse and lay still in bed :-) I don't want to over-dramatize this - I think its normal and really in the big-scheme not horrible - but it is making me cranky!
So, I'm wondering whether
1 - others have experienced this?
2- If so, how long it lasts (I'm thinking its because its new healing skin, nerves, etc) and
3 - anything (types of clothing, creams, etc) in particular help? Thanks all!
(P.S. I am seeing BS today for final drain removal so will ask her too, but you all are so wise I wanted to ask here too!) -
jarpsyd, I have that exact same feeling. By the end of the day I just don't want anything touching that area at all! It's not that it hurts so much as that it's sensitive and gets irritated.
Evilmidget, congrats on what sounds like a successful surgery and good recovery!
Boo, welcome to the group. I hope some solid sleep comes your way soon.
I got the rest of my staples out today so am one step further along on this healing journey. I get my simulation done for rads in two weeks and will have 6.5 weeks or so of that. I get my first Herceptin-only infusion tomorrow. I had it during chemo, so I imagine I won't have any reactions or intolerable SEs. My treatment is a marathon, not a sprint - I have to keep reminding myself of that.
Good luck to everyone with surgery coming up, and I hope those who've had it already this month are resting and letting the healing take place.
-
