Vitamin D....How much are you taking?

Options

Hello, I am wondering how much daily Vitamin D you are taking...seems to be a wide range out there.

Me...

400 IU, thinking about jumping up higher

Thanks for your input!

5000 IU per day at this time. A year and a half ago my levels were non-existent. Gyno prescribed 50000 IU per week for 12 weeks, which got levels normal. I continue to take 5000 IU per day as a maintenance dose and have levels checked every 6 months or so. Before supplementing, I'd have my levels checked. If normal or where you want them (with a BC diagnosis I want mine 70-100 mg) there is not point in supplementing more. The test is an easy blood draw any doctor can order. No reason to shoot in the dark with this-find out what your level is and then decide if you need to supplement and how much.

Thanks for your reply! I just had my levels drawn and ordered today, so I will know soon. In 2012 they were 40, that was before breast cancer in 2013, I am a year out from end of chemo. My PA said below 30 is considered low...yes?

I am taking 2000IU daily per my onc. My levels were in the normal range, but at the low end ( in the 30s) I think. She's checking again in a week

Different labs use differing ranges but I'd be concerned about anything under 30 and more comfortable above 50.

I took remediation levels (like Labelle) a few years ago when lab described levels as "critical" (need to find out just what that meant) and got them up to about 30 but they've dropped again, so I'm taking 4500 daily.

I've read that most people studying D levels tend to take about 5000 daily.

I upped my dose after having miserable reading for the past year and finally got to a normal range. I take 2000 IU per day.

Mine was 38 at DX which was in normal range but not very ideal. Increasing from 1000 IU daily to 2000 IU daily got me to a score of 53 after a year
