hi wondering if any DCIS folks later needed up with a hysterectomy ?i am having a surgery 2/24 for removal of the uterus w/ ovaries. I am really kind of sad about having another surgery. Sigh. I am 44 and seems like people are so nonchalant about it. I guess I am just tired.of operations recovery etc.

Hi, I had DCIS and Pagets.  I also had uterine fibroids that my GYN suspected caused my estrogen levels to be sky high.  Not a good thing with estrogen positive cancer. My estrogen level was over 500.  Thought I was going into menopause right after my MX, but did not!  So I opted to have complete HX.  It is rough having another surgery.  I must say that mine was done robotically,, I only have 3 little scars and had a pretty easy recovery.   Hope yours goes well.

thanks for writing. Yeah, just tired of surgeries. I think mine won't be robotic. I will find out soon. Did you have any sleep issues ?

Greenpeace, I can't speak to hysterectomy-caused hormonal issues disturbing sleep because I was post-menopausal when I had my hysterectomy. I can speak to post- robotic sleep issues: first night little sleep because it was spent laughing with a very amusing roommate. When I got home, the only pain I had was a few days of shoulder pain from the air they pumped me up with, which I think would hold true for non-robotic - laproscopic surgery. I had trouble getting out of bed, again, due to the shoulder, my side of the bed is the right side and that is the shoulder that hurt - I would slither out of bed rather than resting my weight on my right arm. I usually sleep on my right side, but found that uncomfortable, so I slept on my back - and did not have any problems. In fact I find it slightly weird that I have gradually reverted to my usual twirling around all night but mainly sleeping on my right side. I really don't recall much abdominal pain more odd feelings. I had to inject myself with lovenox everyday for 2 weeks to prevent blood clots. The literature and DVD advised injecting in the love handles - but I was quite alarmingly bruised in the whole stomach area below my belly button so I injected in my thighs. very skinny needle - not something I ever imagined I would be able to do, but actually not bad.

hope your surgery goes as well as mine did - almost a year ago - seems like way distant past......

Hi Greenpeace:  I had a laproscopic hysterectomy a number of years ago due to fibroids.  I had instant relief from migraines and menstrual issues and never looked back.  The recovery was very simple and I had no SE whatsoever.  Some tenderness may have affected my sleep but not enough to even remember.  I totally understand your reluctance to have any more procedures, but hopefully this one will not be nearly as bad as anticipated.

greenpeace:  I had sleep issues prior to HX due to my fibro.  Still have sleep issues, probably a combo of fibro and the hot flashes!

thanks for the replies. I am all set for surgery next month. Of course started and stopped my cycle this month. Weird. No heavy bleeding yet this month. I don't suppose it's ending A month before surgery. I believe I will am scheduled for vaginal hysterectomy. I will be having ovaries removed as well. I fell like I keep losing body parts. Hopefully this is the last one.

    Hi Greenpeace,

Lost my ovaries, cervix and uterus at 38 (just turned 50 last June)!  I know what you mean......I was upset about it, we did not have children yet so I had that emotion going on as well.  I will say this - I HAVE NOT MISSED MY PERIODS!  That is the plus!

Also.....the breast malformation from BC is more disturbing to me than the HX.
