Hellow

Most experienced Microvascular surgeons are in other states and out of my insurance network. I have a ppo. But still can't afford to pay 65% of provider costs. How do you pay for surgeries out of network

When I was diagnosed Stage 3 BC, I knew where I wanted to go for treatment and surgery.  A university hospital in another state that was out-of-network.  I was in so much shock and turmoil, I just went there.  I figured I would worry about insurance and money later as I felt my life depended upon it.   My mastectomy was scheduled and my insurance company informed the hospital I was "out of network" and I would owe one boat load of money.    The hospital told me they will talk to the insurance company.  Next thing I knew, I got a letter that they would cover it and consider it "in network."  I've been going there for 3 years now.

Long story short - ask the hospitals you would like to go to and perhaps they have clout with your insurance company.

The micro surgeon I chose and another that I consulted with both said they would take whatever out of network payment the insurance gave them. They weren't going to collect the difference. The only thing I was responsible for was my deductible.

Hi thanks for info. I'm scheduled for surgery in 7 days. My PS initially said that he would accept max out of network fees. Then I get a letter from his office the fees would go towards his balance of $100,000!!!!! I've paid $2000 for hotel which is nonrefunderbl, taken leave from work, and much more. Did you get his waiver of fees in writing? Problem getting one from PS. Any suggestions

OMG. Lnj! That's outrageous. Maybe it's a mistake. Did you call them and ask?

Call him back and remind him of what he told you he would accept. Tell him you have already booked a hotel and taken off from work based on his word. Ask for it in writing.

If your insurance does not have one in- network the have to find you someone who is and you will be charged as though you are in-network, that is what I did. Also if you call NOLA I have heard the will work with you.
