My 73 year old mom was just diagnosed with "in Siti" breast cancer incapsulated in milk gland.. sorry if incorrect, but All new to us.
We researched a few doctors and one out of Hackensack was highly recommended . Today that Dr. office called to cancel my mom's appointment tomorrow at 11 am, and said doctor was closing her practice and everyone is shocked! Not only is my mom scared, but she is now depressed in bed. I had no words, but thought this is a good place to look for a new, highly recommended Breast Surgeon in the Northern Nj area. I do ot want her to wait too long frustrated b/c it took us time to get this appointment.Thank you so much!

    Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about your mother.

Are you near New Brunswick? That's home to the Cancer Institute of NJ, a NCI designated cancer center associated with Rutgers. The phone is (732) 235-2465. If you aren't close to that try googling nci designated cancer centers. NCI stands for National Cancer Institute and is part of the government. The NCI has designated some 45+ cancer centers in the US as meeting certain standards of excellence. I'd start looking at the NCI website which has an interactive map to its centers.

If you're not close to any NCI designated center, you might want to call the number above for a referral.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello,

I was just dx last month. I went to St Barnabas in Livingston. Very good set of doctors: Center for Breast Health & Disease Management (973) 322-7020. Dr Sarah Schaefer. Practice was voted Best Drs. in NJ 2014 by NJ Magazine.

    All the best to mimi

    How far north?

Morristown Memorial - the Carol G Simon cancer center has made my experience much better. Dr. Gendler is the main doc in her practice, she does have another surgeon there who I don't know but I imagine is excellent as well.

    Good luck!

Exactly where in NJ are you (your Mom) located. You mention Hackensack hospital, Bergen County? I live in Tenafly and while I went into NYC for my surgery and follow up care I could get some names from a support group here .

Jennwith4kids..is that where you went for chemo as well? I was going to chose Dr. Gendler, but was already at St. Barnabas for my Mammo and Ultrasound...and when they saw the possibility of cancer they gave me the list of drs.. so I chose Dr. Blackwood at St. Barnabas Center for Breast Health and Disease Mgmt. for my surgery. She is the director of the group. Thought I was in good hands at that point and then proceeded to have my chemo at the Cancer Center at St. Barnabas. Was wondering if anyone else had used St. Barnabas for treatment and how experience was. I really did not research much...just wanted the cancer gone and thought that St. Barnabas was as good as any... Hoping to hear from others as to what they think about St. Barnabas. I know I am done with chemo...but still going there for my followups since I am on hormonal drugs now. Always wonder if its too late to get second opinion as to what I should be doing moving forward.

I used Dr. Michelle O'Shea in Sparta, 973-729-6517. Her practice Summit Breast Care also has offices in Springfield, Montclair, Hackettstown. She was terrific and I highly recommend her.
