Paget's Disease
There is no history of breast cancer in my family, however cancer, there is a lot of and has been fatal.
I'm 29 years old, have two kids ages 6 and 7, and home school both children.
I went to the doctor recently due to the condition of my right nipple. He asked me to try a yeast infection cream on it, which wasn't successful. Now, I'm waiting on my appointment to see him again as he requested. He wanted to send me for either a mammogram or breast ultrasound, but just a couple days ago, I found a lump between my ribs where my breast bones starts. It's about the length of my thumb, a bit smaller. If I push on it, it radiates pain throughout my entire right side. From my breast and lung, right up my esophagus, through my throat, ear, gums, tongue and into my head.
I've been trying to find information on cancers that cause Paget's that metastasis, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for and don't want to end up with false information.
When speaking with my doctor's receptionist today, she has extremely concerned and sounded very sorry for me, like I'm knocking on deaths door. So it has me worried.
I'd love some opinions or personal stories, or information if you have any to offer. I'd be more than greatful!
Thank you!

Welcome to BCO. Please take one step at a time and not leap to conclusions. Even after scans, people are often diagnosed with benign problems that are not cancerous.
The internet is a dangerous place for medical self-diagnosis as it will usually direct people to the worst and most severe causes. Only a doctor can determine the correct testing path to follow, so you need to follow their process and have testing done to diagnose your problem..
You need to seek professional medical assessments, so please see your Doctor for any strange breast changes as only medical professionals are able to diagnose problems.
It will be hard for people to comment until the testing has been done.

I was diagnosed with Paget's in 2009. I woke up one morning and it looked like my nipple had been cut and it was red but did not hurt. I did not really think anything about it until it started to discharge. I did some research about Paget's because I remembered a email that was passed around back in 2001 where a woman had this problem and it was treated as a skin problem but it did not get better and she also posted some pictures as it got worse. She went for a mammogram and it was clean. Later she had a biopsy and it came back as Paget's. My story was just like her story. I went to my primary doctor and asked her if this could be Paget's and she sent me to a breast surgeon and he treated it like a skin problem and told me it was not Paget's. I went back to him 2 more times and then my nipple started throbbing so I went to my GYN and he said it was time for a biopsy. I let the same breast surgeon do the biopsy because he was good but he was not real familiar with Paget's because it is rare and it came back as Paget's.It was caught early but I did have to have a double mastectomy but no treatments.
I am not sure about the other pain you are having. My situation was I felt something was wrong and having the right information I knew I had to keep pushing forward to find out what was going on. If you don't feel like you get the right information from one doctor there is nothing wrong in going for a second opinion. This site is a place to get good infromation and know the right questions to ask your doctor. I wished I would have found this sitebefore I had my mastectomy but that has passed and that is a whole other story. I hope things go good with your doctor visit and you do not have cancer.
