Anyone with Grade 1 tumors - what was your node status?

According to the contrast MRI the tumor measures 2.3 cm. MRI and ultrasound indicate the lymph nodes are normal size, but I know this is no guarantee. I have SLNB and Lumpectomy on Monday. They will be able to tell if the SLN's have cancer at surgery. They said my tumor is slow growing, Grade 1 with mitotic grade 1. I'm just trying to figure out how many people had a comparable size tumor, same grade and if nodes were affected. I know we are all different.

My 2.0 cm tumor is stage 1, grade 2, and no visible cancer cells in sentinel node. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you

I had grade 1, stage 1A and no nodes. The main difference I think was in the treatment, which is that it was not recommended for me to have chemo because grade 1 does not normally respond well to chemo, so I am just doing the ongoing Arimidex treatment and being watched closely.

They said depending on my nodal status and Oncotype score would determine chemo. Sometimes I think I do not want chemo and then sometimes I'm like well it would be a little extra insurance....

My tumor was smaller (1.1 cm) and I was Grade 1 with no lymph node involvement. From what I've read, i don't think the size of tumor alone determines lymph node status; at the same time I've seen posters on here with Grade 1 who have had a positive lymph node.

Keep in mind that while the quick look frozen specimen during surgery gives a strong indication of positive or negative lymph nodes, the final answer isn't available until the pathology report that follows a couple of days later. Much good luck to you next Monday. Try to do something to get your mind off all things cancer this weekend. I found that no matter how much I read or how many sources I looked at, there was never one absolute answer for my profile.

well shoot I hate to be the party pooper here, but my tumor was 2.8 cm and I had one positive lymph node. It had a 2.8mm tumor in it. Even so I don't think size determines whether or not nodes will be involved. I have seen women with larger tumors than mine and stil had no lymph nodes involved. Hoping you don't either.

I had two grade 1 tumors. One was 1.6cm, 0/5 nodes positive. On the other side I had a 1.3cm tumor with 2/4 positive nodes. I am considered stage 11 because my most advanced tumor is the one with the positive nodes despite being smaller in size. It was explained to me a couple of different ways. The tumor with the positive nodes was 1)"smarter" & 2) "learned to travel".

    Yet another party pooper

Memorial Sloan Kettering has a predictive tool for this question . See the link above to "breast cancer nomograms"- . Of course not a crystal ball but it does give an estimate of the chance of being node positive. For me personally having and estimate of the probability of what may be makes it easier for me to handle things and prepare.

The factors that influence the outcome, according to this Sloan Kettering "Sentinal Lymph Node Metastasis" predictive model, include:age, tumor size, tumor location, lymphovascular invasion, multifocality, grade, ER and PR status and a category called "special type" (see link for definition of what is classified as special type.)

I had a 3.6 cm tumor, Grade 1. I had 1 node of approx 1 cm involvement, LVI, and spread to the dermal lymphatics in my skin. The aggressiveness of my Grade 1 perplexed the docs a little. I had chemo, rads, M

I am stage 1a invasive ductal cancer. Ultrasound originally showed a 3.6cm area of grade 3 DCIS but surgical pathology found 6+ cm DCIS and multifocal grade 2 IDC - very small in size (2mm and 3mm). ER+ PR+ HER2+ dr suggesting tamoxifen. Good luck with your procedure

I am stage IIa (2.2 tumor), grade 1 (mitotic score of 1), and I had a micromet in one lymph node, they removed 14 total. I had LVI, oncotype score of 11, no chemo but on tamoxifen for 5 years and now Evista for five more. The ultrasound did not show anything enlarged. Will be thinking of you tomorrow and sending good thoughts for a no node involvement status.

it went well. Minimal pain. They took one sentinel node but I won't know if it's cancerous until Tuesday.

Glad it went well, Shelley. Here's hoping you get clear margins, clear nodes (most of all) and an earlier-than-expected path report.

    Hi. Candy1959
Welcome to the most amazing board ever.

You are at the hardest part of the whole process, when your treatment protocol isn't fixed and you feel like someone hit you over the head with a large board,
Grade 1 is the easiest of the 3 grades, tumors of this grade grow more slowly, and are usually treatable with medications rather than chemo.  Please don't misunderstand, having cancer is still no fun, and grade 1 tumors can spread, but it is unlikely.
Your odds of being just fine are high, and your treatment will likely be quick and effective
In the meantime, feel free to ask questions as needed.
    Big hugs

    Hi Candy1959

Welcome. In Nov 2014 I too was diagnosed with IDC grade 1. I had my surgery on Dec 11 2014. Surgery went well no cancer in my lymph nodes or outside margins. I am now back to work part-time. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
