when I was first diagnosed I immediately wanted a BMX... But now that I know more and I have talked to the surgeon and plastic surgeon I have other options. The PS seems to think that a lumpectomy would be my best option. He says he can rearrange tissue and I will be exactly the same as I am now! That surgery would be extremely easier than MX or BMX.... But add radiation. I can do the UMX... And PS will match the other one after TE's..... Or I can do the BMX... I just don't know what to do.... I feel like the lumpectomy is the easy way ... But should I take the easy? I'm very active and have two boys 8 and 9 to chase around so down time is a factor for me. I am having genetic testing done today so if that comes back positive for BrACa then I'll obviously go with the BMX but I really do not have a family history of BC so I am not really that concerned. I just don't know what to do!!!!!!!

Leigh, I found it helpful to make a list of what was most important to me, then make a list of my options and see how the two lined up.

Do you know what grade your tumor is? And have you had an MRI to determine if there's anything going on in either breast beyond the 2 cm tumor? Both of those details could factor into your thinking.

You can also get a second opinion (when you have every bit of information), just to hear what another BS feels about your case.

If there's no indication for a UMX or BMX, one thing you might consider is having the lumpectomy and seeing how you feel after that, especially in term of future worry or risk. You can always opt for a UMX or BMX at a later date, but once you've done either of them, you can't undo them. Just some thoughts... (((Hugs))) Deanna
