Congrats CassieCat! Absolutely wonderful news. I'm so happy for you
-
Congrats Cassie that is some great news!!!
-
Great news, Cassie! It must be nice to be (with) NED! I'm a bit envious!
Today's drama in the classroom -- you ladies with drains will appreciate this -- my drain clips to the top of my pants. I wore a tunic-style sweater to cover it. At some point when I was talking, my drain came unclipped and hung down beneath my sweater! Fortunately, I was able to slide behind the lectern and re-clip it. Otherwise, teaching was uneventful (though it was weird having my DH in my classroom to help out).
Lots of surgeries tomorrow!
-
Cassie, that is indeed wonderful news! Doing the happy dance.
Lulu, thanks for the advice. Breaking the Norco in half seems to help prevent nausea. I guess I can do Tylenol with 1/2 Norco.
-
Yay CassieCat! I am so glad to hear that you are cancer-free!
-
CassieCat... CONGRATULATIONS. I am so very happy for you. If I could do a happy dance I would!
My surgery yesterday went well. I had 1 drain put it but it was removed today. I had a migraine yesterday so the pain of the head overrode the beast pain. I missed to surgeon yesterday as the migraine medication on top of the morphine knocked me out. As far as I know everything went OK. They put a compression bandage on during the surgery and removed it today before I was released. I'll ring the breast care nurse tomorrow and ask her some questions. My breast is swollen and is quite indented where the mass was moved. It's making the all too real. I think my exhausted from both the surgery and the migraine so I am feeling sorry for myself. Know I'll be fine though.
I am following all of your progress and I send all my loving thoughts to each of you and I hope we all join CassieCat very soon with an all clear.
-
Cassie, that's great news!
We're delighted to hear it, and thanks for sharing :-)

Off to the hospital. Best wishes to everyone for successful surgeries, no pain and clear path reports
-
Shaz101, sounds like the hardest part is over and the drain is removed. Sorry for the stupid migraine you had. Hugs to you and things will look up now. Prayers your way as with all the sisters!!! Keep your chin up, this is just a stepping stone and it will get better.
I am scared also, I leave today for the mapping and all with mastectomy tomorrow. Hope we all have the best results as CassieCat!
Mary
-
Kittybelle good luck to you today, I'll be having mine tomorrow!!
-
Jan. 8th I had my left incision from my bilateral masectomy revised. I ended up having a new expander put in, it was coming through the breast.......
-
So happy to hear that those who have had their surgeries are doing well thus far. Thinking of everyone with surgery coming up. My turn is Friday. Getting very nervous but trying to stay positive.
U4iachic, I hope your recovery goes well.
-
CassieCat- Congrats on the awesome news!
Shaz101- So happy to hear from you! Sorry for the migraine you had. They are awful! Good to hear the drain is out. Keep on resting and may your path report come back clear!
To all- Good luck with your surgeries and recoveries. Thanks to all with their updates and experiences.
-
U of M just called said surgery is tomorrow at 11:30, if all goes well I will be heading home by 4. Scared but I have great sons and daughter, and daughter-in-laws to help. Feeling very blesses but really scared.
-
Mary I am scheduled for about the same time as you. I am having mine at 10 am tomorrow, but I am in TN so central time zone. Good luck to us both!
Congrats CassieCat on the great news.
Shaz sorry about the migraine. I had one last week that caused me to is my surgery. Keeping positive thoughts for you that you wille get a great path report.
I hope everyone is healing well
-
Thinking of everyone going in today and will check back later. Good luck!!!
-
Hi Viceroy, my lumpectomy and SNB are scheduled for the same day:) My nerves go from one extreme to the other. It's good to have everyone here for support. -
Hi Homer14, we've got the same surgery day. Like you, I'm very nervous about it. Hope everything goes well for you. Mine is a long procedure (10-12 hrs due to Tug flap reconstruction) so I'm pretty sure my surgery time will be 7:30am - happy to get it started early!
-
Mary and AnotherLife--- wishing you both successful surgeries tomorrow. Praying for clean nodes.
Shaz--glad to hear surgery went well and of course you had to have migraine the same day- so sorry. Certain drugs can trigger migraine ( ie. Zofran). Hope you are feeling better today.
For those who had or will have lymph nodes removal, becareful not to carry anything heavy on the affected side even after the six-week clearance. I developed cording 2 months after MX from hauling the vacuum upstairs...the doc did say I can resume normal activity after six weeks. Sigh. Cording can be uncomfortable and painful and it puts you at risk for lymphedema. I learned my lesson and don't want any of you sisters going through it.
-
Loveroflife, thanks for that heads up and warning. It's easy to jump in and do too much too soon as it is, so good to have that reminder to take it easy and watch the affected side(s).
Shaz, I get migraines too and had terrible ones during chemo. It may have been related to the zofran and aloxi, or it may have been stress. Maybe both, maybe something else altogether! In any event, I'm really sorry to hear you had one on top of surgery. That is not fair, to say the least. I hope you're feeling better today, physically and emotionally. This is a tough thing to go through, no doubt.
-
Hi Mary and AnotherLife. I'm joining you in surgery tomorrow as well at noon. I'll be thinking of you both as we travel this nerve-wracking journey tomorrow. Here's to having it done and over with!
-
So-she-did--I knew I forgot someone. Best wishes on your surgery tomorrow too. Hugs.
-
Good luck tomorrow, so-she-did, Mary and AnotherLife!
U4iachic, how are you doing now?
Kittybelle, hope things went well today.
Hygeia, did you go int today as well?
cinvee, how are you doing?
I overdid it a little bit today and am feeling soreness in my armpit. I see my surgeon tomorrow anyway, so I'll be able to have it checked out, just in case. Wondering if the drain will come out or not.
-
so-she-did I will be thinking of you also.
Thank you everyone. I will be leaving for the hospital in a couple hours. I am awake again changing my clothes for a third time from the night sweats. Grrr
CassieCat I hope, you will get your drain out.
-
Good luck, so-she-did, Mary and AnotherLife! Surgery sisters in recovery -- hope you're doing well. I stupidly disregarded all the warnings about Percocet and constipation, and the Big C hit yesterday. After chemo, I'd been having loose stools every other day or so, so I didn't think constipation would be a problem for me. Well, that was a mistake! I should have taken a stool softener before taking Percocet. Ugh. Oh well; I'm off of Percocet for the most part. I need to drive and don't want to feel spacey.
I saw MO yesterday; still no path report yet.
-
AnotherLife--so sorry you did not get the rest you very much needed before surgery.
CassieCat--rest and don't do too much...the drain may stay in longer. As mom, it is hard to sit still. I'm struggling with restingalso as I'm a person who is used to taking care of things.
Elaine--having same problem here with Norco and I don't even take it as often. I have history of IBS ( mainly diarrhea) so I thought I would not have problems with constipation. I was silly too for not taking a stool softener with my pain pill.
-
Anotherlife, good to hear you'll be going home. I hate night sweats - sorry you weren't able to get better rest.
-
CassieCat -- I was told my drain would come out when it was collecting 25 ccs or less in a day. So far, while the amount of drainage has lessened, we're not there yet. I suspect I'll get mine out next Monday. Take it easy! That's hard to do, I know. I've been working at home and just going into work as needed.
-
Mine have been at or under 20 since I came home. There isn't a lot draining, though it is draining. Another thing on my list of "Is this OK? Is something wrong? Is my body just good at absorbing the fluid?" Argh! Everything makes me worry, ha ha.
I'll drive DD to school and pick her up later, and walk to my dr appt (about 1 mile roundtrip) with my DH. That'll be my day and hopefully won't be too much.
-
CassieCat -- my drain is in the lymph node area. I just got off the phone with my nurse navigator -- they took out 20 -- TWENTY -- lymph nodes from that area. (I guess I had a lot of Levels 1 and 2 lymph nodes.) Maybe, that's why I'm draining more than you. The good news: all clear, so yay! But, I've got my fingers crossed regarding lymphedema....
I'll drive to work; do my lecture; drive to pick up my sons at school and go home. That's my day; hopefully, it won't be too crazy.
