Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has chosen the short course (believe it's around 3 weeks) radiation therapy instead of the standard?

I'm 37 and had my first meeting with RO today. He mentioned this as an option but we will not really know until he looks at my file in more detail and the simulation. I was reading up on it a bit after the appointment and saw that it was not yet the standard of care for those younger than 50.

It would be great to get a total dose that is less and to finish this in 3 weeks so any input you may have is much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm familiar with a short course but the total dosage is just as high (sometimes referred to as the Canadian approach). I'd love to hear more about any alternatives.

I was her2+ as well and Im from Canada.  My RO said due to the aggressive nature of my cancer (her2 grade 3) and age (42)  he would not recommend the shorter course.  My friend (also young) but had a small her2 neg grade 2 cancer got the short course.  It depends on your stats I think

Thanks ladies. I do think the total dosage is lower, at least that's what the oncologist told me. The daily dose my be a bit higher tha the standard course as the time is cut in half but the total dosage is more than half. I am going in for my simulation today so I hope to find out more about this tomorrow or Monday.
