Picked up my U/S findings, I know I am getting biopsied but would like to know what my findings mean. Can you help me dissect? round cyst measuring 24x16x22 mm in left breast at 3 o'clock located 3 cm from nipple, which demonstrates vascularity present immediately adjasent to the lesion. Internal echogenicity is hyperechoic, hypoechoic, anechoic and markedly hyperechoic relative to adipose tissue. there is increased sound transmission. There are some hypoechoic areas within cyst which are avascular. echogenic foci in the cyst wall are felt to correlate with the calcifications seen on mammogram.
Cyst in at 3 o'clock located 3 cm from nipple is suspicious. An aultrasound biopsy is reccomended. Sampling of the solid (hypeochoic but avascular) area and calcifications should be preformed. BIRADS: 4 (no letter was given after the 4)

SMV - I'm sorry but I can't help you a lot with that (a path. report yes, but I've not grasped all the US lingo yet). Your BIRADS score would indicate that there are suspicious areas (as does the verbiage) but necessarily malignant.

I would definitely call either the nurse navigator where this was done OR your doctor's office and ask them to walk you through it, phrase by phrase.

Are you scheduled for your biopsy yet? Please keep us posted and do return here for support and, hopefully, some additional insight. Going through this process is really tough, regardless of whether your results are positive or negative. Hang in there and DO keep pressing for the answers and information you need.

Thank you. I have my eval with the breast surgeon who will be doing the biopsy on Wed. We will meet, I'll give him my findings, images, etc..and we will schedule the biopsy then.

I appreciate you responding to me. :)

But if you want clarification before Wednesday, ask your nurse! Mine was a total sweetheart and I called her a gizillion times and she didn't mind and was compassionate.

had my biopsy today. It was an u/s guided core needle. They took 4 samples and then placed the titanium marker inside.

The cyst did in fact have fluid in it. - per the surgeon. There was also a mass within (which also contained calcifications) the surgeon could tell part of the mass was dried blood but there was another part that was solid that they will be testing.

    Thoughts? Anyone? :/

    SMV,

Waiting is the worst. Unfortunately, that is what must be done. Did they say when they'd know the results?
